Shared Publishing System Project

Oxford University Press is a department of the University of Oxford, which furthers the University's objective of excellence in research, scholarship, and education by publishing worldwide.

SPS is a global, cross-divisional project that will impact approximately 2500 employees across multiple geographies (UK, US, Spain, Canada, India, Malaysia, Pakistan, Hong Kong, Australia, and various Africa countries). The project will be implementing a new publishing management system - resulting in the retirement of 13 existing systems and various offline solutions. As well as a system change, staff will also be required to adopt harmonized processes and data sets.

About the role

A Learning Manager is required to define and execute a learning strategy and plan in order to maximize the effective use of SPS at OUP. This will be achieved by working closely with the project team and divisional/functional business teams to identify the training requirements associated with the new system as well as its associated processes and data set. It may be necessary for the Learning Manager to deliver training, but the focus of the role is to manage the execution of the learning plan.

The post holder will be a learning professional with significant experience of designing training courses and learning materials, and of delivering both face-to-face and remote training to small groups. A recognized training qualification and experience of working with a project team to deliver a new business system is highly desirable. The post holder must have excellent communication, presentation, and team-working skills, along with an excellent knowledge of the Microsoft Office.

Responsibilities will include:

  • To work from an existing high-level strategy, define a detailed learning strategy and plan for the project that will enable benefits to be realized and is acceptable to relevant stakeholders.
  • To work within the approved budget and provide reports on actual and estimated spend.
  • To manage the execution of the agreed learning plan. To include:
    • Developing a training needs analysis that covers all impacted employees
    • Overseeing training logistics and administration (e.g. rooms, equipment, session scheduling/booking, attendance)
    • Developing session plans and materials (training scripts, presentations, training aids, exercises and valid tests) for various channels including, but not limited to, face-to-face, webinars, and e-learning
    • Developing self-service materials including, but not limited to, video, documentation, and e-learning
    • Upskilling and overseeing the work of professional and non-professional trainers
    • Delivering training through different channels including, but not limited to, face-to-face, webinars, and e-learning
    • Monitoring attendance
    • Conducting evaluation of training delivery and materials, analyze results and improve where required
    • Updating materials in response to iterative development of the system
  • Overseas travel may be required.
  • Recruitment of further professional trainers may be required.
  • To carry out any other duties as directed by the SPS Central Change Manager.

Please note: this is a full-time fixed term role for 17 months to start as soon as possible.

About you

The successful candidate will have:

  • Knowledge of systems training methodology (e.g. TAP).
  • Knowledge of adult training methodology.
  • Experience of developing and delivering training to adults in various formats: e-learning, video, documentation.
  • Experience of developing and delivering systems training in various formats: e-learning, video, documentation.
  • Ability to manage large, complex projects from a training perspective.
  • Ability to produce high-quality written and visual outputs, and constructively review outputs from others.
  • Attention to detail when creating and reviewing documents.
  • Strong communication skills and a positive, flexible approach to problem-solving.
  • Ability to self-organize and manage time effectively.
  • Desire to work in a fast-paced, collaborative team environment.

Desirable:

  • Knowledge of change-management theory.
  • Knowledge of publishing.
  • Experience of working across various geographies and time zones.
