Shift Supervisor
Location: Cardiff Bay
Reporting To: Factory Manager
Remuneration Expectation: £12.04 /hr plus overtime available.

Shift: 8 hour shift within a rotating 24 Hour shift pattern (days, afternoons and nights) - Working 6 weeks on, 2 Weeks off.

The Role:
Bob Martin is currently seeking a skilled and experienced Shift Supervisor to carry out various tasks in our busy Cat Litter facility in Cardiff Bay. This position is responsible for managing an operations shift team in a safe manner, ensuring product quality and maximising the efficiency of our production machinery . We offer a competitive salary working an 8 week rotating shift pattern – 6 weeks on 2 weeks off.

Key Responsibilities:
Personnel & Communication
• Supervise all operations within production operation including bulk shed, and packaging lines.
• Lead your team, being approachable to create a positive working environment within your shift.
• Co-ordinate with management to understand the production requirements and targets, able to understand and apply instruction & requests - highlight risks where appropriate and make suggestions of solutions to mitigate issues – operate constructively within key review meetings e.g. morning meeting.
• Complete basic personnel procedures such as the initial risk assessment or a ‘return to work' document.
• Supervise agency workers on site, ensuring that they are appropriately trained for the task they complete.
• Be the ‘out of hours' first point of contact for site, escalating to management as required.

Production
• Co-ordinate with the Engineering, Quality, Operators, Factory Manager and other team members to ensure production schedule is met and line performance is optimised – lead activities such as ‘live check board' short interval control process.
• Understand how the factory operates, and the operational capability of the equipment.
• Complete all required paperwork to document the performance of the shift.
• Supervise the transport movements through the factory, ensure all processes are completed safely with instructions communicated appropriately.
• Ensure that your shift is operating sustainably e.g. waste segregation, appropriate disposal of materials.

Quality & H&S
• Ability to lead safety processes (by example) such as: Accident reporting, First Aid, Fire Drills and ensure operator compliance with safety standards and policy e.g.Working at Height, Manual Handling, PPE compliance
• Ensure all paperwork, both regular (quality sheets, change-over sheets) and exceptional (Accident investigations, glass break report) is completed to an acceptable standard.
• Dynamically assess risk to ensure that the actions of the operators on your shift to ensure safe working practice.
• Ensure housekeeping & hygiene is kept at a consistent and acceptable standard, working to eliminate product risk through the process and ensure ‘end of shift' state of factory is appropriate for handover.
• Supervise the operators & processes in the bulk shed to ensure they meet production requirements, maximise the potential e.g. granulation, mineral mixing etc.

Inbound & Outbound
• Drive the CASE shovel loader and maintain bulk material supply to the lines – raise risk where bulk stock levels are low.
• Understand the despatch process and support Despatch Drivers out of hours.
• Understand the delivery process and support FLT drivers out of hours.

Essential Experience, Skills & Qualifications
• Experienced in factory operations, safe operation of industrial equipment, quality assurance procedures, bulk materials handling, safe transport operations, operation of tipper truck
• Able to instruct and operate operations processes
• Experienced FLT Driver
• Experienced in supervising: personnel, manufacturing lines, and transport operations
• Knowledgeable of production operations, inbound/outbound goods operations and warehousing
• Aware of safe working practices in a manufacturing and warehousing environment
• Qualified in first aid is a preference – else training to be provided
• Training will be given in the use of industrial earth moving equipment.

Competencies
• This person needs the capability and attitude to be able to communicate with multiple users (truck drivers, employees, visitors, management) simultaneously, in a polite, calm but firm manner.
• Able to effectively & appropriately communicate whilst under pressure with those around him/her
• Able to lead a team, be trustworthy and inspire performance and confidence.
• A systematic personality, rigorous, and able to create simple effective plans & risk assessment.
• The ability to understand the shift operations has on the Cardiff factory
• Keen to develop their area of responsibility and improve the capability of the operation

Limit of Authority
• Authority to stop an activity or operation deemed unsafe.
• Authority to quarantine product & investigate e.g. in the event of contamination.
• Authority to supervise personnel, complete basic personnel process and coach & train.
• Authority to stop inbound/outbound activities
• Authority to order agency workers once approved by Factory Manager
• No financial authority.
