About the role
The Lookers Group's recently formed Business Intelligence Reporting department is seeking to strengthen its team with the appointment of a Systems Accountant.
This is a key position and the successful candidate will play a crucial role in the development of Group's reporting and Business Intelligence systems. In particular they will be responsible for ensuring that financial data imported into the Group's reporting systems. They will also assist in designing and continually developing a suite of reports in the Group's agreed reporting platform to agreed specification.
The successful candidate will also contribute to design specification and will be expected to offer challenge and suggestion for improvement to all projects.
Additionally the candidate will working closely with the Group Accounting function to maintain and develop the Group's existing management accounts, budgeting and forecasting systems.
Although knowledge of BI reporting tools is preferred, training will be provided as necessary. However, prior experience of report development and reporting systems to a management team is essential.
What you will do
Understand the business to contextualise the reporting requirement. Previous motor retail experience would be advantageous but not essential.
Be able to express ideas within the team but also deliver solutions at senior management and Board level
Work to strict timescales and agreed standards
Be dynamic in adapting to changes, for example to incorporate acquisitions into the reporting framework on a timely basis
Be responsible for the extraction from source of financial data and ensuring that data is correctly transformed and mapped prior to upload to the Group's financial reporting systems.
Develop and maintain existing reports in the Group's agreed reporting platform to deliver business critical information to users across the Group
Work closely with other members of Group BI and Finance teams in order to contribute to the design of those reports
Challenge the design of business intelligence systems and reports to help improve the provision of information
Support and work with the Group's data extractions and transformation teams to ensure the correct data is available in the correct format
Contribute as necessary to the administration of the BI platforms
What we are looking for
This role is ideally suited to an accountant, assistant accountant, a systems accountant or similar who has significantly above average IT skills
Alternatively an IT professional with working experience of a finance function
In particular advanced Excel knowledge (e.g. VBA, pivot tables etc.) is essential
Knowledge of OLAP data cubes would be advantageous
Knowledge of SQL or other similar reporting / query tool would be advantageous
The ability to work as part of a team
Excellent communication skills
Experience of working under pressure to hit agreed deadlines
The skills and desire to drive improvement in systems and processes
