The University of Wales Trinity Saint David invites applications for the post of Systems Engineer within the Information Technology and Systems team at the University of Wales Trinity Saint David.
The Systems Engineer’s main role is to ensure the stability, integrity and efficient operation of the in-house information systems that support core University functions. This is achieved by monitoring, maintaining, supporting and optimising campus network devices, networked servers and associated operating systems and voice systems. The Systems Engineer will apply proven communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills to help identify, communicate and resolve issues in order to maximise the benefit of IT systems investments.
The post holder will need to demonstrate strong technical knowledge of current network hardware, such as switching at Layer 2 and Layer 3, Distributed Storage Area Networks (SANs), virtual and physical servers, wired and wireless networks, ITIL, current information security standards, voice and audio-visual technologies and disaster recovery. It is envisioned that the post holder will work alongside the existing IT Team members assisting with projects, but also providing 2nd/3rd line support to key systems.
Applications are invited from individuals with experience and knowledge of providing high quality technical support within a large network of server operating systems.
A Degree in a computer-related discipline, or accreditation in specific technology areas such as CNE, MCSE or another equivalent award would be desirable.
