Qualified Accountant to Chair the Joint Independent Audit Committee
The Police and Crime Commissioner for Lincolnshire and the Chief Constable have an established Joint Independent Audit Committee, in accordance with the statutory Financial Management Code of Practice for the Police Service.
The Audit Committee’s main roles are:
- To evaluate overall corporate governance arrangements put in place by the Commissioner and the Chief Constable and to make recommendations for improvement.
- To consider internal and external audit reports.
- To review the draft statements of accounts and annual governance statements prior to publication, considering whether appropriate accounting policies have been followed and making any recommendations as appropriate.
The Audit Committee is comprised of five members; one Chairperson and four Independent Members, who are all independent of the Commissioner and Lincolnshire Police. We are now seeking applications for the role of Chairperson, from individuals who are objective, show independent thinking and who have the ability to initiate constructive and independent challenge.
Applicants must be a member of a Chartered Accountancy Body, have awareness of current accounting issues, as well as an understanding of the principles of change and risk management. Experience in a role involving scrutiny and review of governance and/or finance is also essential.
Appointments will be for an initial period of four years commencing April 2018. It is anticipated that the Committee will meet formally four times per year and the role will also involve occasional attendance at liaison meetings and briefings. The Chairperson will receive a basic annual allowance (£1,000), a special responsibility allowance (£3,000), and reasonable expenses will be payable for attendance.
If you would like an informal discussion with the current Chairman please contact the HR Resourcing Team in the first instance.
The deadline for receipt of completed applications is 12 noon on Wednesday 21 February 2018.
Provisional date for interviews for the Chairperson is 5 March 2018 (possibly 7 March also).
