This role is working with Northampton Magistrates based in Moulton Park, Northampton.

The enforcement teams key objective is to secure compliance with criminal court orders that have a financial element ('fines'). The range of offences that attract financial penalties as part of the sentence include very serious offences as well as low-level offences.

The magistrates' operation is akin to that of a debt collection agency and, as such, you will need excellent customer service skills combined with the ability to handle difficult telephone conversations.

The successful candidate will be required to negotiate payment terms with individuals, as well as make clear the consequences for them of non-compliance. The successful candidate will also need to explain what options are available to those individuals who are already subject to enforcement action.

Your new role will consist of;

  • Negotiating payment terms with individuals, as well as make clear the consequences for them of non-compliance.
  • Explaining what options are available to those individuals who are already subject to enforcement action.
  • Choosing the right methods at the Magistrates disposal to gather information on individuals and ensure their compliance with court orders is upheld.
  • Making evidence-based decisions drawing from a number of different sources in order to secure successful outcomes.
  • Handling information on individuals sensitively, and adhere to the Data Protection Act.
  • Ensure all customer engagement is highly professional both in written and verbal communications.

Strong administrative skills will be essential, including prioritization and time management. You must have with the ability to work on your own and within the team, as well as undertaking adhoc tasks as specified by managers. A high standard of computer skills and customer service is paramount.
