Assistant Grounds Operations Manager

An opportunity has arisen to join the senior management of the award winning Grounds Team at the University of Exeter, covering our Streatham and St Luke’s Campuses; approximately 150 hectares.
The grounds of the Streatham Campus are a National Botanic Garden and contain three arboretums and approximately 10,000 trees including over 100 ‘champion’ trees. The University also holds a National Plant Collection and is a Green Flag Award winner for open space excellence.
Reporting to the Grounds and Sports Operations Manager, you will have responsibility for the supervision of Grounds and Arboricultural Managers, Gardeners, Assistant Gardeners and Apprentices.
As part of the Grounds Senior Management Team, you will continue to protect, develop and enhance the University’s grounds and estate.
We are looking for someone who:
- can demonstrate first class people management skills
- has a sound knowledge of estate works, horticulture, arboriculture, protected crop production, biodiversity and plantsmanship
- has at least achieved an HND in a relevant subject or display an equivalent level of management and practical industry experience
- be an excellent communicator with a detailed knowledge of health and safety, risk assessments and safe operating procedures.
- have knowledge of COSHH as part of integrated pest management and HAVS/LOLER/PUWER will also be required
- holds a clean, current driving licence
The starting salary will be from £26,495 up to £33,518 on Grade E, depending on qualifications and experience.
