Project Manager
Ultra Electronics Precision Control Systems is an operating business of Ultra Electronics. We are a leading developer of mission and safety critical equipment in the aerospace and defence industries. We support our military and civil aerospace customers by providing innovative electronic, electro-mechanical and pneumatic solutions for safety critical and high integrity applications. We also provide equipment for modern military land vehicles that improve their reliability and performance whilst reducing the burden on their operators and maintainers.
Ultra Electronics Precision Control Systems (PCS) has an opportunity for a Project Manager to join the team as a result of our growing order book.
Responsibilities
- Manage and execute contracts/projects from kick-off through to completion and support bids.
- Resolve delivery issues as they arise, across all business functions, in order to achieve the business case requirements and customer commitments.
- Call extraordinary project reviews with the senior management team in the event that the project is unlikely to conclude successfully and maintain the business case objectives.
- As an authorised sign-off signatory attend Design Reviews to ensure that schedule and cost requirements are achieved and there is an acceptable level of residual risk for the project.
- Ensure allocated projects meet governance and health & safety requirements.
- Formulate and submit monthly reports and metrics for assigned projects.
- Interface with, elicit resource from and hold business functions to account for their responsibilities in support of project execution.
- Act as the primary interface to the external customers on assigned projects (which will be of varying levels of complexity and value).
- Support the Head of Programmes with the development of customer relations.

- Has an in depth knowledge and experience of the project elements of ERP systems e.g. IFS.
- Is dedicated to meeting the expectations and requirements of internal and external customers and can be counted on to exceed goals successfully.
- Enjoys scoping out tasks and producing schedules that include risk provision (response actions and potential impacts - Schedule Risk Analysis), resource allocation, the critical path & progress.
- Have strong financial acumen and an ability to undertake Cost Risk Analysis.
- Relishes leading with energy, drive and a need to finish tasks & creates a climate in which people want to do their best.
- Commercially astute; able to identify & manage potential scope (creep) change.
- Can write clearly & succinctly for different audiences.
Experience/Qualifications
- Successful management and control of projects, ideally in a multi-disciplinary complex product development and production environment (does not necessarily have to be aerospace or defence).
- Degree level in an engineering/science or management discipline (2.1 or better)
- Formal project management qualification e.g. APM PMQ (APMP)
- MS Project and MS Excel at Advanced Level
- MS Word, Visio & PowerPoint at Intermediate Level
- Desirable: APM PPQ, IPMA Level B, MSP Practitioner, MBA
This is a full-time role (37 hours per week) as follows: 0 Monday to Thursday, 0 Friday.
