About Cam Sight

Cam Sight is a Cambridgeshire charity supporting local people of all ages living with low vision and blindness. Established in 1912, the charity aims to enhance independence, improve well-being, and increase inclusion to enable local people with low vision and blindness to live the lives they choose.

Cam Sight provides tools needed for more independent lives by offering equipment and magnification advice from two Low Vision Equipment Centres in Cambridge and Wisbech. Through technology and rehabilitation training, we support clients in improving daily life skills, reducing their reliance on carers. Through our community support service, we help with identifying appropriate equipment, supporting financial entitlement applications, and general advice and guidance in the home.

We offer counselling and emotional support in both individual and group settings to overcome the emotional distress sight loss can impart. Alongside this, staff and volunteers organise a wide range of sporting activities to improve the physical health of clients, including tandem cycling, 10-pin bowling, swimming, and guided running.

Cam Sight organises 18 peer support groups across the county, which bring together isolated clients on a monthly basis for entertainment and community. Specifically for children and young people, we organise monthly group sessions for peer support and the development of life skills, while building parents’ confidence in their children’s abilities. Clients are also offered the opportunity to be paired with a volunteer in the Befriender service, so they have regular visitors and support venturing outside the home.

About the role

We are looking for a self-motivated team player to join our team in the role of Information and Administrative Officer. The aim of this role is to develop our information resources, providing valuable advice and guidance for clients, and to provide administrative support to the Cambridge office.

  • Provide information for the members’ newsletter on developments of services, groups and activities, local and national news and information.
  • Be first point of contact on the telephone, respond to queries or direct callers to appropriate members of staff. Co-ordinate the volunteer phone team.
  • Provide administrative support to the Cambridge office, including taking on responsibility for incoming and outgoing post; managing the info@camsight.org.uk email address; administrating the staff diary sheets and annual leave roster.
  • Ensure the safety and securing of the Cambridge office, including checking alarm systems; fire drills; supervision of housekeeping; maintenance of First Aid kits; and other tasks as they arise.

  • Good team player with ability to liaise effectively with others.
  • Good office skills and numerical ability, experience with IT software such as MS Office.
  • Capable of delivering under pressure and responding flexibly to problems.
  • Enthusiasm and positive approach.
