The Company and the Role:
Excellent opportunity to join a global group which provides heavy equipment transportation to the British Army in peacetime and during operations. The role is for HGV Mechanics / Maintainers who must become Sponsored Reservists. The positions are permanent and located at an Army camp in Wiltshire.
The purpose of the role is to maintain HET's and other military wheeled vehicles both as a civilian and as a Sponsored Reserve member of the Territorial Army and to maintain them to a high level of professionalism and adhere to company and military policies and procedures. An integral part of the role is to be a TA Sponsored Reservist.
Whilst most HGV Mechanic / Maintainer tasks will take place at the squadron workshop to which the individual is affiliated to, all HGV Mechanics / Maintainers must be prepared to work short term at other squadron workshops if there is an operational need.
The role will predominantly be based in the UK but you may have to deploy to anywhere in the world.
All applicants will have to undergo a comprehensive medical and fitness / strength tests. Therefore, interested applicants should be of good health and physically fit.
Key Features of the Role:
Specifically, you maintain the HET's and other military wheeled vehicles and to undertake roadside repair and recovery.
You will carry out scheduled and unscheduled Mechanical and / or Electrical maintenance of HET's and carry out roadside repair and recovery of HET's anywhere in Europe.
You will carry out scheduled and unscheduled Mechanical and / or Electrical maintenance of other military wheeled vehicles and perform workshop tasks within manufacturer's productivity levels.
You may be required to work outdoors.
You will work within the requirements of the quality plan and follow approved procedures and will participate in total quality and continuous improvement programmes.
Knowledge and Skills:
To be considered for this role you must hold a British passport, eligible to join the Territorial Army and be willing to become and remain a Sponsored Reservist (SR) and uphold the commitments as an SR.
You will be a highly professional Mechanical / Electrical Engineer with a strong sense of company and team loyalty.
You should be qualified C+E (HGV 1), with experience of maintaining articulated vehicles and have not more than 6 penalty points on your licence. Training will be provided (6 weeks).
ADR licence is desirable but not essential.
What's on Offer:
This is a salaried position with an annual basic salary of GBP31,310 per annum for an average working week of 48 hours averaged over a 17 week reference period. In addition, there is a Territorial Army bounty payable and uplifts and allowances depending upon deployment to theatre. On target earnings, can be up to GBP49,248 per annum depending upon the time spent on deployment.
In addition, there are 28 days' holiday including bank and public holidays increasing to 33 days over 5 years, Stakeholder pension, Life assurance etc.
If you have an HGV Driver / Operator background, there is also the opportunity to combine the HGV Mechanic / Maintainer role with an HGV Driver / HET Operator role (see separate job advert). This duel role attracts an annual basic salary of GBP31,310 pa plus the same TA bounty and uplifts and allowances.
