The team

This role is a12 month fixed term contract within Pearson Learning Services. The role will commence with the Progression and Intervention team, but we are looking for someone who is flexible and would be happy to work in other areas of Learning Services over the 12 month period. This may include working in the Vocational team.

The Progression and Intervention team are a dynamic and innovative group exploring exciting product ideas for new markets. We work across both Primary and Secondary markets to produce services for students and their teachers across a range of subjects. You would be working within a matrix team, with people from many different job functions - editorial, design, sales and marketing - coming together to create and launch brilliant resources that work in the classroom. The role can be based in our Oxford or London offices and you would report into a member of the publishing / product management team.

The role

We are looking for an energetic and proactive person with well-developed editorial and content development skills and a passion for education to join our team. You will be part of a friendly and high-performing team, working closely with our publishers to understand customer and learner needs and create great resources to support teachers in the crucial areas of progression and intervention. In this role, you will contribute to the development of great market-winning ideas. You will be responsible for working with a range of suppliers to develop, deliver and quality assure those products and services to a high quality ready to be used in the classroom.

A day in the life of...

During a typical day you might engage in some of the below activities:

Market Understanding

  • Getting out into schools, testing sample materials with teachers and learners and making suggestions for improvements
  • Building your market understanding through contributing to and/or leading on research initiatives with Primary and/or Secondary teachers and learners
  • Working with project managers and supplier managers to identify and manage the best freelance partners to work on our products

Proposition development and execution

  • Briefing key authors on requirements for new projects
  • Attending author workshops to generate new and exciting content which meets needs of learners and teachers
  • Reviewing author content, ensuring it meets the brief
  • Working hands-on to develop briefs for freelancers to ensure they manage, edit and proofread materials to meet needs of learners and teachers and ensure consistency across different manuscripts.
  • Quality checking freelance work
  • Writing and briefing artwork and working with our rights and permissions team to clear permissions where needed

You will also

  • Work with our delivery team to ensure budgets and schedules are kept, using problem solving skills to help find solutions to any problems that occur.
  • contribute to team meeting
  • work with our digital team and editorial freelancers and suppliers to ensure resources are made available on our digital platforms and are checked thoroughly where needed
  • answer customer queries and write customer facing communications about brand
  • and create and maintain relationships with schools and share findings from research widely within the team

Qualifications

Who are we looking for?

A competent editor who has a keen interest in education and is passionate about creating resources that help students make progress in their learning

Someone who would enjoy working with a close team to develop exciting new resources but equally willing to take responsibility.

  • Editorial experience and skills are critical
  • Proven organisational /project management skills with regards to delivery of content
  • Digital skills (the ability to work with technology teams to develop the digital part of propositions) are desirable
  • Education/teaching experience desirable (but not essential)

We do require you to have experience of successfully managing editorial projects, have excellent organisational skills and the ability to work independently and proactively within a team. Last but not least you need to have a positive and determined attitude to work.

You don't need to have any prior experience in the Primary or Secondary Schools, although we do like to hire people who have a genuine interest in this sector.
