Somerset

This a 12 month booking to provide support to the Health and Safety Manager.

Key responsibilities:
Provide advice and sign posting on health and safety matters to ensure legal compliance and encourage a positive health and safety culture.
To maintain and update accurate records on health and safety matters, analysing data and suggesting remedial action where appropriate.
To monitor and review action plans, safe systems of work and risk assessments.
To support on investigation of accidents, incidents and near miss reports as required, with Unison Representatives and other Council Officers. To keep accurate records of accidents, incidents and complaints making recommendations as required.
To conduct inspections and spot checks of workplaces within the organisation and to report to the Health and Safety Manager and make practical recommendations as required.
To respond to training needs and give training advice for departments as required.
To collate H&S information and either support or deliver to Service Areas in tool box talks.
To maintain the H&S intranet site, ensuring all information is relevant, up to date and easily accessible to all staff.
To monitor the implementation of statutory checks (such as permits to work and asbestos management arrangements) and keep accurate records.
To support the Health and Safety Manager with the development of health and safety policies and priorities in line with changes to legislation or best practice.
To provide information and analysis for the Health and Safety Committee and Corporate Governance Committee.
To stand in for the Health and Safety Manager when required, including during investigations and for the purpose of committees and meetings where necessary.
