Associate Director of Development (Cornwall New Energy)

UK Community Works CIC is a social enterprise set up to help build local community resilience, and to develop and pilot the tools that enable local communities and businesses to become more self sufficient and sustainable. Community Works is helping to deliver Cornwall New Energy (CNE), a part-funded ERDF project providing support to businesses, social enterprises and community groups that want to generate renewable energy and improve their energy and environmental performance.  

To support the development of this project we are looking for candidates based in or prepared to travel and work in Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly for the following role:

Associate Director of Development (Cornwall New Energy) - 6 month contract (potential for extension) - Full or Part time (minimum 20 hours per week)

This is a key, senior position in this young company, requiring a wide range of experience and expertise to support its development. The role will involve strategic development as well as operational responsibilities - including developing and integrating local energy strategy into the CNE programme ; identifying and supporting local renewable energy projects ;assessing and supporting the business and technology innovation needs of local businesses; and undertaking management and administrative duties associated with the company's activities.

The role requires an experienced and entrepeneurial business manager, educated to degree or equivalent standard, with strong business development, commercial and technology innovation skills. You will also need a broad understanding of the low carbon sector, and detailed technical and commercial knowledge of existing and emerging energy systems and markets.

Candidates will need to demonstrate:

  • Good technical knowledge of renewable energy and related project development
  • Experience of supporting businesses to identify problems and opportunities and support them to develop and grow 
  • Understanding and experience of the UK research ecosystem, and energy research and innovation in particular
  • Experience of securing funding for research and business development and subsequent project delivery
  • Business, project and team management skills and experience, with delivery of results in a busy, pressurised environment
  • Experience of development and implementation of complex, multi-stakeholder projects
  • Good oral,written and presentational skills and ability to deliver innovative, imaginative marketing and communications activities

Experience of working in ERDF projects is desirable. 
You will need a valid driving licence and be able to use your own vehicle for commercial purposes. The role will require travel throughout Cornwall and potentially to the Isles of Scilly. There is potential for the role to expand to other regions, and projects, in the UK in due course.
