Our client is a leading energy and services group employing 20,000 people in the UK. They are using their energy and services capabilities to lead the UK’s transition towards a more secure and sustainable future, through a strategy based on investment in critical energy infrastructure, integration of its energy expertise with its broad services offer, and innovation in customer-led solutions and technologies. The business has well-established and diverse operations that span the exploration and production of gas and oil; on-shore gas storage; generating power as one of the UK’s largest independent power producers; providing power and gas to thousands of business; and delivering services to more than 14,000 customer sites across the public and private sector.
They are now looking for an Accounts Assistant to join them – this role will rotate every 14-18 months into different areas of the Finance team which supports the B2B and B2C energy supply and export business.
This is the perfect opportunity for someone who is looking to progress their experience within various areas of finance and will allow you to demonstrate growth, moving from a graduate with limited experience in the first rotation to a qualified accountant with increased responsibility in the last rotation, giving you the skills to move into an analyst/accountant role.
As a valued member of their finance department, the types of tasks you will perform in the individual rotation roles include investigating customer energy reconciliation variances, providing information to support the month end reporting cycle and aiding the production of management reporting. With an understanding of the sales order book, you will maintain any data discrepancies and aid with variance analysis of revenue and costs and follow variances through to recovery.
Other likely tasks include operating settlements and invoice validation processes, understanding their cost data, industry data flows and volumes as well as processing purchase ledger invoices and credits notes to ensure suppliers are paid to terms and accounts are reconciled with issues resolved.
The successful candidate will have an accounting (or similar) degree and be actively (or intend to begin) studying for a recognised professional accounting qualification, ideally CIMA. Accounting experience within a similar finance department would stand you in good stead, but what’s more important is an organised and methodical approach and the ability to produce accurate work under tight deadlines.
With a strong customer focus and the ability to work as part of a team, you will be committed to a high standard of performance and able to build positive working relationships. You’ll need to be highly numerate, computer literate with Microsoft Excel and have effective communication with finance and non-finance teams.
So if you are looking for a role which will allow you to progressively pass recognised accountancy exams and gain an accountancy qualification, then this could be the role for you.
