CHIEF EXECUTIVE (and Clerk to Trustees)

Based in Cambridge, full time permanent contract, salary £50-60K depending on experience

The Foundation was established in 1693 by the will of Edward Storey, a wealthy Cambridge bookseller. From the original ten almshouses has grown a modern charity offering 90 sheltered housing units and a residential care home, and grants schemes for women in need. In keeping with our founder's concerns, we primarily help older, unsupported women in Cambridgeshire but we do accept single men on one site. We also support women with professional connections to the Church of England wherever they live.

You will already be an experienced senior leader and share our commitment to providing high quality social care in an organisation that is an exemplar of best practice. You will have the vision to take the Foundation forward to meet the needs of current and future beneficiaries, as well as the knowledge, skills and character to inspire confidence in our committed staff, our residents, beneficiaries and external stakeholders.

You will work closely with the Trustees to ensure good governance and effective stewardship of the Foundation's resources (total funds of almost £17million and an annual turnover of £1.6million). You will provide the secretariat for the Board and ensure Trustees receive appropriate and timely advice to enable them to fulfil their statutory obligations.

The role calls for skills and experience in:

  • Leadership and people management in a relevant context
  • Governance, strategy and planning (some knowledge of charity law and regulation would be beneficial)
  • Managing property and financial assets
  • Managing and developing efficient and effective organisations

Appointment subject to Enhanced DBS & Barred List checks and references.

Please apply with CV and cover letter.

Deadline for applications:    Noon on 2 February 2018
Dates for first round interviews:    19-20 February 2018 (in Cambridge)
