Carer – Self Employed Opportunity
Home Based

Are you seeking a flexible and highly rewarding career? Could you welcome a vulnerable person into your home and provide them with the support they need to realise their full potential?

If so, this is an amazing opportunity to make a genuine difference to someone’s life as one of Shared Lives South West’s Carers.

The Organisation:

Shared Lives South West is a dynamic charity offering support services throughout the South West to people with a learning disability, mental health issues and older people through our network of approved Shared Lives Carers.

Individuals who use our services live or stay with our Carers as part of their family, making for an unrivalled support service. Our Carers deliver a range of services, including short-term breaks, long-term accommodation and transition services for young people approaching adulthood.

Our service is growing and, as such, we’re looking for a number of empathetic Carers within the Torbay area to join us on a self-employed basis.

The Benefits:

- Rent payments and fees for the support you provide
- A friendly team of specialist support staff to help you succeed in your role
- Full training
- An in-depth induction process
- The chance to empower individuals and help them to remain involved in their community
- The opportunity to take on a rewarding role that’s more flexible than a Monday to Friday office job

Being a Shared Lives South West Carer offers a unique opportunity to make a positive, lasting impact on people’s lives.

You will have the freedom to take full ownership of your role, as well as ongoing support from our talented team whenever you need advice, guidance or just someone to talk some ideas over with.

Shared Lives South West offers a comprehensive screening and induction process, so you can rest assured that you’ll have all the help you need to start your career with us.

The Role:

As a Carer, you will provide accommodation, care and support to an individual within your own home.

In this important role, you’ll support an individual with mental health problems, learning disabilities or needs related to older age.

As part of our referral process, we will match you with an individual that you can best support and care for. This includes looking at the individual’s support needs, as well as their likes and dislikes, lifestyle and preferences.

You’ll empower them to make the most out of their day during their stay and provide them with a tailored support service in a welcoming family environment.

About You:

To join us as one of our Carers, you will need:

- Personal, voluntary or work-based experience of caring for, or supporting people in some capacity
- The ability to talk openly and easily with a range of people, including professionals
- To be patient and willing to go the extra mile
- An open and honest approach
- An enthusiasm and passion for providing high quality support
- A willingness to learn new things

Ideally, you’ll have previous paid experience as a carer or of running a care service, but this is not essential. Experience of acting as the family carer for a vulnerable adult would also be a benefit.

Please note, due to the nature of this role, in-depth background and environmental assessments will need to be undertaken prior to successful candidates commencing their roles.

Other organisations may call this role Carer, Social Worker, Support Worker, Live-In Carer, Family Carer, Care Assistant or Support Assistant.

Webrecruit and Shared Lives South West are equal opportunities employers, value diversity and are strongly committed to providing equal employment opportunities for all employees and all applicants for employment. Equal opportunities are the only acceptable way to conduct business and we believe that the more inclusive our environments are, the better our work will be.
