Relevant Records is a busy, independent coffee shop and record store based on the Romsey side of the vibrant Mill Road. We have been open since 2014 and are known for our weekend brunches, live music events and evening cocktails and pizzas.

We are now hiring for a new Assistant Manager to join our wonderful team in the coffee shop, reporting direct to the shop owner, Angie, and responsible for overseeing staff training and rotas.

Working for Relevant Records is fun, fast-paced and intense during those busy hours. We are a close-knit team working in a small kitchen/service area serving 60+ seats across 2 floors.

A usual work day at Relevant is filled with great banter (at least we think so), smiles, an excellent soundtrack, and working together to support the serving, barista and kitchen team.

The Person

We are looking for an out-going, creative, witty and professional team member who is not afraid to get stuck in and works well under pressure.

Our new Assistant Manager will come from a hospitality background with 3-5 years of Supervisory or Assistant Management experience, providing excellent customer service and managing a team.

Food skills – accomplished food handling experience including food preparation and food service.

Barista skills – solid experience with using a professional coffee machine and creating latte artwork.

Team management - confidence to manage and motivate the team to achieve results. You will be a great communicator, with the ability to communicate expectations set by the store owner to staff, live musicians, suppliers and of course our amazing customers. 

Music – a love of music is essential. We host regular live music nights, music quizzes and our staff playlists have become pretty popular with our customers.

The Role

Day-to-day responsibilities include:

  • Open up/lock up shop
  • Cash up
  • Staff training
  • Planning staff rotas
  • Stock and order control
  • Overseeing our social media posts
  • Creative input into themed evenings, events and menu ideas
  • Assist the shop owner with the aim of achieving high levels of profit, attention to detail, meeting all food and hygiene standards and providing a supreme customer service

The Assistant Manager will work approximately 40/45 hours per week across 5 days, including one evening shift, with alternate Sundays and Mondays off.
Approx outlined hours are below:

Week 1/3

  • Monday 8:00am – 6.30pm
  • Tuesday 7.30am – 2.30pm
  • Wednesday off
  • Thursday off
  • Friday 4:00pm – 10.30pm
  • Saturday 7.30am – 5.30pm
  • Sunday 9:00am – 5.30pm

Week 2/4

  • Monday off
  • Tuesday 7.30am – 6:30pm
  • Wednesday 8:00am – 6.30pm
  • Thursday 9:00am – 5:00pm
  • Friday 4:00 – 10.30pm
  • Saturday 7.30am – 5:00pm
  • Sunday off
