Job Title: Weekend Carer

Location: Lindsay Court, Croydon

Salary: £9 per hour

Hours: 12 hours per week (Sat & Sun 8 a. - 2 p.)

Closing Date: 18th January 2018

A charitable Housing Association who specialise in Supported Housing for the Elderly requires a Weekend Carer to work at Lindsay Court in Croydon.

Overall purpose of the job

  • To maintain and improve tenants' level of functioning
  • To encourage tenants to live as independently as possible, to enhance their quality of life
  • To promote, protect and respect individual tenants' right to privacy, dignity, self-determination and choice

Key responsibilities

Specific duties

  • To attend handover prior to commencing duties
  • To help tenants get up in the morning, assisting with washing and dressing if necessary
  • To assist tenants prepare breakfast if unable to do so themselves
  • To make tenants beds in the morning if unable to do so
  • To empty commodes and clean when necessary
  • To assist tenants in changing incontinence pads and maintaining personal cleanliness
  • To assist tenants with bathing as and when required
  • To assist less mobile tenants with toileting and transferring
  • To help less mobile tenants to dining room, sitting room, and other communal areas as required
  • To report to House Manager any changes in tenants needs
  • To carry out domestic duties within tenants flats as instructed by House Manager
  • To change bed linen and attend to tenants' personal laundry as required
  • To assist in the preparation and serving of the midday meal if required
  • To clear tables and ensure dining room is left clean and tidy
  • To assist in the kitchen after the meal if required
  • To keep accurate and appropriate records in accordance with the Associations policies and procedures and CQC requirements
  • To review care plans and risk assessments as required
  • To prompt tenants to take their medication as prescribed by their GP and to record accurately in their daily medication sheets

Learning and Development

  • To actively participate in self-development as appropriate and training as identified for the benefit of performance management
  • Compulsory attendance at all training courses identified or requested by the Association in accordance with the terms and conditions of employment as detailed in the Employee Handbook

  • To work to promote the Association and ensure that its reputation is enhanced and to actively promote its Equal Opportunities and Diversity policies, ensuring that all practices/procedures are in accordance with best practice equality and diversity procedures
  • To work within the Association's Equal Opportunity Policy and ensure implementation of the same
  • Be aware of Health and Safety regulations at all times, ensuring compliance
  • To adhere to the Association's Environmental Policy

Other

  • To carry out any other duties as reasonably instructed by the House Manager (or Manager/ Senior on duty) or Registered Care Manager essential for the well-being of the tenants, or smooth management/running of the Scheme
  • To attend at Team and other staff meetings as required where reimbursement will be made.
  • To comply with all contractual agreements affecting employment, completing the appropriate forms as necessary, such as time sheets, self-certification forms, annual leave forms, unauthorised leave etc.

Person specification

Essential Skills, Qualifications and Experience

  • NVQ Level 2 or 3 in Health and Social Care (or equivalent)
  • Caring and sensitive personality
  • Ability to demonstrate compassion, respect and empathy to caring for older People
