Our Engineering Degree Apprenticeship offers a full degree with no fees, plus vocational training with a regular salary. The first of its kind in the UK, Airbus is leading the way with this unique 40 month programme through which you will achieve a BEng in Aerospace Engineering following the design pathway, and also a professional IEng level award.

This specialist programme is designed to develop high level aeronautical engineering skills by combining academic and vocational studies in aeronautical engineering. You will be studying via Swansea University at Coleg Cambria to achieve your degree, and your industry based work takes place at our world leading aircraft manufacturer site in Broughton, North Wales.

Tasks & accountabilities

At our Broughton Wing Manufacturing Centre of Excellence, you’ll undertake a range of on-site placements and have the opportunity to cover a number of disciplines, including Wing Manufacturing, Wing Design, Wing Quality Engineering, Lineside Production Enablement, In-service Support, and Programme Management and Planning; so you’ll gain broad experience encompassing all of our world class Airbus commercial Aircraft, working alongside our world leading experts in aerospace.

Engineering Apprentices involved with Programme Management and Planning support the implementation of any adaptations to the shop floor working environment required as a result of programme changes and/or new products being introduced into the production lines.

For Apprentices on a placement with Wing Quality Engineering , you’ll be supporting Quality product improvements; working on adaptations to Wing design and cost improvement projects.

During a placement with Lineside Production Enablement, Engineering Apprentices work with the team responsible for the design of the working environment and ensuring it is as effective as possible to support production. Lineside Production Enablement are responsible for the insertion of new technology sets (e.g., robotics, 3D printing) to enhance production capability.

In addition to your work placements and studies, there are a number of valuable training opportunities that cover a variety of subjects as well as encouraging you to get involved in extra-curricular education and community projects to broaden your experience and help you develop both your professional and personal skills along the way.

Required skills

In order to be eligible for this apprenticeship candidate must have a minimum of:

  • Two A Levels at grade B in Maths and C in Physics (or alternatively an Engineering Level 3 qualification at grade triple distinction)
  • Six GCSEs at grade C or 4, or above, which must include Maths, English Language and Science (either core and additional / double award, or Physics if Science is taken as single subjects).
