La Verna is a non-registered, purpose built facility for the elderly and frail sisters of the Franciscan Missionaries of the Divine Motherhood. It is situated within the Ladywell Convent Complex in Godalming, Surrey. La Verna offers a person-centred holistic approach to all the sisters and those who come for convalescence. Ladywell Convent, La Verna is a very unique place providing a happy working environment. Currently there are 22 residents.
We require a Qualified Nurse with Management qualifications and/or experience to oversee the care of the members of the community to lead a valued, fulfilling life and to maximise the potential capacity of all sisters physically, intellectually, emotionally and socially. You will ensure adherence to the highest standards, in care practices and champion quality service, continually improving and innovating the quality of care provided within this kind and compassionate environment. You would need to believe in the importance of people’s wellbeing and you are capable of providing support to members of the community promoting independence, choice, dignity and respect through the hands on care you deliver to our sisters.
Assisting the Care Manager, you will be involved in providing essential physical and mental stimulation, as well as administering medication. One of your key responsibilities is to maintain accurate records of the job you complete, prioritising workload and being able to work well under pressure. Your leadership skills will allow you to build strong relationships with the rest of your team and manage the floor on a daily basis. You will possess sound judgement and initiative in problem solving, and have an eye for details. Reading, writing and communicating clearly in English is vital.
You will be able to demonstrate a solid understanding of Elderly Care including best practice, adhering to and having a good understanding of the CQC standards making the lives of those in your care better. A Registered Managers Award or willingness to work towards this qualification is desirable. Your responsibilities will also include in consultation with the care manager, preparing and managing budgets, implementing policies and procedures and ensuring the convent complies with all legislation and industry best practices.
The successful candidate will support the Care Manager, covering in her absence, be a good communicator, kind and approachable, lead and motivate our team, ensuring their continuous development in order to maintain our ethos and the high quality of care provided to our growing number of elderly sisters. You will have excellent interpersonal skills to ensure good relationships are built and maintained. Excellent organisational and an eye for detail are essential, care plans will be completed and updated regularly. The position is for thirty-five hours per week over five shifts, weekend working will be required. Successful appointments are subject to satisfactory references and an enhanced DBS check, and candidates must be authorised to work in the UK. At least two years’ experience is preferred.
