The Head of Student Administration Systems owns the StudentAdministration Applications portfolio and provides a softwaredevelopment and support service to meet the demands of the business.
The portfolio includes all the key student related applications such asthe Student Records, Admissions, Timetabling, Examinations Timetablingand Careers systems which are strategic to the college.
Main Accountabilities
Develop the portfolio strategy and assess the capability of currentsystems and emerging technology to advice the business effectively.
Lead a skilled team and support them as their line manager in theirday to day operational work and throughout their career development.
Ensure that the resources available to them are effectively managedand planned including designing efficient support models and providingtechnical leadership to projects and change (such as accurate planninginformation, estimates and task dependencies, assisting in therecruitment of appropriate contractors and directing the work ofdevelopers).
Main responsibilities
Define, develop and execute the portfolio strategy, including thevision for how services will drive positive student experiences, fostergreater collaboration and better Student Administration at RoyalHolloway.
Develop and utilise the portfolio to meet business requirements andbring the highest degree of benefit to the end users.
Working within IT policies and architecture : analyse, design, build,test and release applications on time and to specification to deliverthe required benefits.
Prioritise and perform upgrades, fix requests or minor enhancements,including development & testing.
Provide leadership and line management to the staff assigned to theteam, leading with passion, enthusiasm and integrity.
Be the main point of contact and advice for best practice in your areaof expertise. Provide technical architectural expertise, direction, andadvice to your team and others and ensure these are aligned toorganisational goals, objectives and standards.
Actively manage relationships with vendors ensuring awareness ofTechnology road maps. Act as a liaison point between the business andkey vendors, maintaining key relationships to the advantage of thebusiness.
Create and maintain up to date Production Systems Architecturediagrams for each application within the Portfolio alongside standard ITTechnical documentation deliverables throughout the system life cycle.
Provide full service delivery responsibility undertaking structuredplanning to ensure: sufficient system capacity is made available; thatrenewal plans to replace obsolete or at risk technology are timely; andthat SLAs with the business are being met or exceeded.
Provide second and third line support for those services within theteams remit and act as an escalation for technical difficulties, complexor urgent queries, issues and incidents.
Plan and provide resources and expertise to support the delivery oflarger application projects and programmes, managing contractedresources where applicable.
Work as Project Manager where appropriate
Support the implementation and effective operation of ITIL processesincluding change, request, service, incident, capacity and problemmanagement.
Development, documentation and support of required interfaces owned bythe Student Applications suite
Manage security, user rights and comply with information-relatedlegislation
Keep up to date with industry developments, driving innovation andeffective change to improve current services or be built into newservices
Essential Experience
Experience of managing an IT service team, including balancingpriorities, scheduling, and forward planning of work and resources tomeet supply and demand.
Commercial expertise in multiple disciplines/technologies/processesrelated to the position including development, implementation, andmaintenance of large scale integrated systems across multiple hardwareand software platforms.
Supplier/Vendor Relationship Management experience.
Technical Knowledge of Reporting, Database, Middleware , Servertechnologies in any of the following Oracle, MS SQL Server, MySQL,Windows,Unix, Linux, Java, VM, Tomcat, Business Objects, Qlikvew,Biztalk, SSIS.
Experience of Scrum and practical experience of working as part of ascrum/agile team.
Experience of ITIL/Prince2 environments/Frameworks - provided by Dice
