Our environment team provides a wide range of specialist environmental support to internal and external clients and has an increasing workload across infrastructure and development sectors. Due to continuous growth, we now have a need for an experienced graduate ecologist to join our expanding team in Birmingham, based within city centre, close to New Street Station, Grand Central and the Bullring

Based in Birmingham you will be working across the region and nationally and will be supporting not just delivery of nationally important schemes such as HS2, but also smaller schemes that are important to local communities like new schools, better sports clubs, and housing projects. Our Birmingham team are engaged in provision of support to both Public and Private sector clients and we can offer a genuine variety of work, including opportunities in the road and water sectors, with local authorities, energy sector and developers.

This mix of projects will give you the opportunity to develop in new ways, and you will be part of helping us achieve our growth and realise your potential, by driving forward our services to internal and external clients and helping to develop new business for the team/

We are an equal opportunity employer and value diversity at our company. We do not discriminate, and take positive steps to create an inclusive culture.

Job Description

You will be part of a dynamic global ecology practice across Mott MacDonald, who work collaboratively to deliver ecological support and to ensure the development of its members. You will also be part of our Birmingham office community, an increasingly diverse work place that brings together professionals from across disciplines to develop client and people centred solutions to the problems we face, with a focus on integrity and honesty in everything we do.

The role requires a mix of office- and site-based work and will involve working away from home as and when necessary, so travel flexibility and a clean driving licence are important factors. The ideal candidate will have an ecologically-related degree and a relevant Masters degree; and Associate membership of CIEEM (or eligibility for applying). The role will involve contact with external clients, the general public and many internal colleagues, so good communication skills and presentation are essential.

If you are looking for variety, want to be part of a company that is changing but values its people, that provides opportunities for social and career development then we would like to hear from you.

Candidate Specification

Your experience should be a good mixture of the following:

  • Degree or relevant masters in ecology or directly related subject.
  • Significant experience with a strong focus on preliminary ecological assessments, Phase 1 ecological survey and planning support
  • Protected species licences are desirable and holding at least one personal protected species licence is preferred.
  • Be experienced in liaising with regulatory bodies to negotiate and obtain consents.
  • Capable of managing a challenging workload subject to change at short notice.
  • High level of personal responsibility.
  • Adaptable and flexible approach to different project requirements.
  • Strong report writing skills.
  • Proficient in Word and Excel and ideally ArcGIS.
  • Driving licence.
  • Associate CIEEM membership.
