As Project Manager at HS2, you will deliver assigned project sections through the management of the client, supply chain and various stakeholders, and assist in the development and implementation of the delivery vision and strategy for the infrastructure programme, to ensure delivery according to time, cost, quality, safety and environmental specifications.

About the role:
  • You will be expected to actively promote and embed Equality Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) in all your work, and support and comply with all organisational initiatives, policies and procedures on EDI
  • Manage a broad programme strategy to delivery and handover by setting individual objectives, reviewing performance/appraisals and providing on-going feedback on a formal and informal basis so all Project Managers are aware of objectives and requirements
  • Set, agree and control budgets for projects, and agree escalation points, key milestones, and time, cost quality and safety targets to ensure that objectives are achieved in line with programme plans
  • Within agreed authority levels, negotiate, procure and authorise all major project contracts and variations and approve and authorise all payments to meet value for money criteria
  • Take an operational lead on interfaces with all external and internal stakeholders relating to project areas managed
  • Report project progress (including progress reports and papers) to the Contract Board, Programme Board, and other similar Boards as required
  • Oversee the risk management for projects managed, and take lead on audits and independent reviews undertaken by others
  • Provide direct input to communications, press and media for internal and external stakeholders by collaborating with the Communications Directorate
  • Establish and maintain relationships with key customers, including contractors, and key stakeholders in order to resolve issues quickly.


About You:
  • A background of managing major projects with budgetary responsibility
  • Demonstrable record of working with large, complex, multi-disciplinary projects, preferably within rail construction
  • Exceptional project management skills gained across a range of projects, with a sound understanding of project management principles and application.
