SHEF Officer

GBP33-35k base plus package

Experis are recruiting on behalf of our Client a leading support services organisation for an experienced Health & Safety professional to join them as a SHEF Officer/Advisor to be responsible for the delivery of Health, Safety, Environment and Fire advice and support across a multi-site PPP contract they are delivering.

The main responsibilities for this role are as follows -

  • Promote and deliver an enduring safe working environment across the contract
  • Ensure all accidents, incidents and dangerous occurrences are reported and investigated in accordance with the Accident Reporting Procedures
  • Compile and distribute reports and returns as scheduled and on demand
  • Provide comprehensive and compliant advice on all SHEF matters to the key stakeholders
  • Develop and own an agreed SHEF audit system - ensuring all sites are subject to programmed audits based on activity and level of risk - and results are communicated and any actions addressed
  • Identify SHEF training and awareness needs of employees and coordinate or deliver training where required
  • Organise, manage and deliver SHEF meetings in accordance with the terms of reference for respective meetings
  • Identify activities posing significant hazard to the health, safety and welfare of any person on-site and mitigate accordingly
  • Liaise with Fire Service authorities to ensure that fire risk assessments and fire management plans are current and available and ensure that regular fire evacuation drills are carried out and records maintained in accordance with the Contract

The successful candidate will display the following skills and experience -

  • NEBOSH General Certificate or equivalent
  • NEBOSH Certificate in Environmental Management or equivalent
  • Sound understanding of current Health & Safety legislation, the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) order 2005 and good working practice
  • Prior experience working as a SHEF Officer/Advisor or a similar role with responsibility for site SHEF
  • Educated to GCSE level to include English & Maths
  • IT Literate with MS Office applications
  • Excellent communication skills - written and oral
  • Self-starter - able to prioritise own workload
  • Must be able to gain and maintain UK SC level Security Clearance for this role
  • Full UK Drivers Licence
