KTP Associate (Natural Language Processing)
THE PROJECT
The University of Essex in partnership with Essex County Council offers an exciting opportunity to a graduate to design a potentially marketable product using Natural Language Processing which could produce summaries forming briefing notes, and improve quality of information available to decision makers. This post is fixed term for 24 months and is based at the Essex County Council offices in Chelmsford.
Please note this role is subject to funding approval (funding outcome expected early November 2017).
DUTIES OF THE POST
The duties of the post will include:
- To embed and exploit Natural Language Processing to process large volumes of government information - as agreed by Essex Council, producing a number of key products through the following analysis:
- Automatic text processing and summarisation.
- Develop machine learning (or deep learning) techniques where suitable in order to accelerate the testing and development of the product range.
- Develop a multi-document summarisation tool.
- Develop a single-document and query-based summarisation
- Promote wider adoption of Natural Language Processing within the Council.
- Assess and build appropriate data sets, plans and maintains database structures.
KEY REQUIREMENTS
The post holder must have:
- MSc in Statistics, Data Science, Computer Science, Mathematics or a related discipline.
- Good theoretical and applied knowledge in a range of statistical and computational techniques, particularly Natural Language Processing, classification methods and/or machine learning, Artificial Intelligence and data visualisation.
- Experience of working with unstructured data.
- Good knowledge and experience of high level programming languages (preferably R, C#, Java or Python).
- Knowledge and experience of working with databases (preferably SQL Server).
- Knowledge of Javascript.
