Health and Safety Officer - NEBOSH 
Home based, with significant travel across South West/Southern England 
£30,954.96 plus Home Workers Allowance and Company Car Scheme, plus excellent benefits (starting salary subject to experience) 
Permanent, 35 hours per week 

Cats Protection is the UK’s leading feline welfare charity. We now help nearly 190,000 cats and kittens through our network of over 250 volunteer-run branches and 34 adoption centres and homing centres. 

As part of a small but growing team comprising H&S Officers and H&S Volunteers, you will support the H&S Manager in ensuring the efficient operation of the charity’s adoption centres, homing centres and shops in line with current CP Policies, procedures and health and safety legislation. You will also work with the H&S Manager to ensure awareness and observance of the charity’s policies and procedures amongst our volunteer branch network in your region. 

Key Responsibilities: 
1. Undertaking regular visits to Adoption centres, Homing centres and Shops, to ensure a safe workplace environment without risk to health. 
2. Ensuring that all Health & Safety policies and procedures are adhered to including, but not limited to, lone working, electrical/gas safety, DSE and manual handling. 
3. Ensuring compliance with emergency procedures across the network of Adoption & Homing centres and shops and any actions recorded including: 
- Emergency evacuation drills 
- Fire safety checks 
4. Ensuring that risk assessments are reviewed by their due date 
5. Establishing and chairing regional staff H&S Committees to allow: 
- Effective communication of updates or reviews of policies and procedures 
- Effective feedback to the H&S Manager of any staff issues or queries 
6. Working with the H&S Manager and a growing team of volunteers to promote awareness of, and compliance with, the charity’s policies and procedures within the charity’s volunteer branch network in your region, Including: 
- Working with the Operations team to establish Branch H&S Representatives within the branch committee set up. 
- Establishing and chairing regional H&S meetings, attended by branch Reps, to develop an effective two way flow of information to ensure volunteers are aware of H&S policies and guidance available together with their responsibilities 
- Ensuring that all proposed action points are reported to the health & safety manager for review 
7. Ensuring that staff and volunteers are aware of and completing the appropriate sections of the charity’s health & safety e-learning package. 
8. Reporting any additional health & safety training requirements identified to the H&S Manager 
9. Participating in regular health & safety team meetings to report on relevant matters identified in the region. 
10. In common with all posts, ensure compliance with Cats Protection’s policies and procedures, statutory obligations and best practice, and to undertake such other duties as may be reasonably required by the Chief Executive. Person Specification: 
Essential: 
- NEBOSH Certificate or equivalent and membership of a professional body 
- Full, clean driving licence 
- Previous experience in health & safety 
- A commitment to excellent standards of care 
- A pragmatic approach to health and safety combined with excellent communication skills. 
- The ability to build strong relationships and influence change. 
- Good knowledge of the MS Office suite including Excel. 

Desirable: 
- Experience gained in a public sector, facilities or charity environment 
- Experience of working with volunteers 
- An affinity with cats
