An exciting opportunity has arisen with St Christopher’s Fellowship. We are currently looking for a Children’s Residential Worker (days and/or nights) to come and join our team based in Ealing or Kilburn. You will join us on a full time, permanent basis working 40 hours per week and will receive a competitive starting salary of £21,210 - £22,220 per annum dependant on qualifications.

More about the Children’s Residential Worker role

In this role you will actively contribute to the provision of care for children and young people within an environment of pro-social learning that promotes positive attachments and relationships, you will have responsibility for the home and its residents during shifts, creating a caring and safe environment, making autonomous decisions where required, and taking charge of emergency admissions.

As a Residential Worker you will achieve the highest standard of service delivery as measured by Ofsted against the Children’s Homes National Minimum Standards, with particular regard to health and safety and primary care issues. You will also initiate appropriate contact with on St Christopher’s call support systems, Social Services and other external agencies in the interests of the young people.

Key responsibilities as our Children’s Residential Worker

- Establish respectful, trusting relationships with young people that lay the foundation for them to discuss with confidence any issue they have relating to their safety or welfare

- Give young people the opportunity to express their views and participate in decisions that affect them

- Support young people to develop resilience and build mental, physical, emotional and social well-being

- Encourage and motivate young people to achieve their full potential in their physical, emotional and social development

-  Assist in the implementation of young people’s care plans and contribute to the assessment and review process as required

- Act as a role model and demonstrate appropriate pro-social ways of dealing with problems

- Provide advice, assistance and support on a one to one basis to enable young people to address past and present difficulties

- Provide for young people’s physical needs by offering healthy meals, washing and ironing clothes and bed linen, and undertaking general household duties to keep the home clean and tidy

Skills and experience required of our Children’s Residential Worker

- Educated to GCSE level or equivalent

- Experience of working with children in a residential setting

- Level 3 Diploma for Residential Childcare or equivalent is highly desirable

- Candidates must have the ability to build genuine and trusting relationships with young people and encourage their independence

- The resilience to cope with challenging behaviour and circumstances. Understanding of the issues surrounding child sexual exploitation and community based risk is desirable

- Flexibility to undertake shift working including evenings, weekends and bank holidays, and to participate in sleep-ins
