Senior Structural Engineer
Would you like to lead structural engineering activities across a diverse range of buildings spanning the Naval Base? We currently have a vacancy for a Senior Structural Engineer at our site, Portsmouth Naval Base.
As a Senior Structural Engineer, you will provide structural engineering judgement and guidance to the Chief Engineer's department to enable key decisions with respect to safety and longevity of infrastructure. The dockyard comprises an area of about 336 acres and includes buildings that range from shipbuilding warehouses, churches, museums, block mills and also the Naval Academy where Lord Admiral Nelson himself learnt his trade.
This role will provide you with the opportunity to work with a very diverse range of architecture, including buildings dating back to 1495, as well as a variety of materials. You will have the chance to work as part of a large team, managing a number of stakeholders, including site contractors.
Your main responsibilities as a Senior Structural Engineer will involve:
Undertaking civil/structural appraisals and inspections to provide direction with regards the future of the naval base infrastructure
Undertaking engineering feasibility assessments, vetting and approving preliminary and final designs with justification for decision(s)
Preparing requirement specifications, overseeing and managing the work of consultants, including checking their production information
Leading design reviews and other peer review meetings as required
Your skills and qualifications as a Senior Structural Engineer:
Degree or equivalent qualification or experience within structural/ civil engineering (or closely related discipline)
Experience within structural analysis and structural design of buildings
Good working knowledge of building regulations
Chartered Engineer (CEng) status
Experience with condition surveys within structures
