Sovereign is a social business and one of the largest housing associations in the country. We provide over 55,000 homes for around 130,000 people in housing need across the south and south west of England and the Isle of Wight. We’re also a major developer of affordable housing, building around 1,500 new homes each year to rent or buy. Sovereign was formed in November 2016, as the result of a merger between Spectrum Housing Group and Sovereign. 

ROLE (OVERVIEW):

Sovereign are looking for a skilled Painter and Decorator, who ideally has Carpentry and Plastering skills, to work in the Exeter and Plymouth area for Spectrum Property Care; to help supply complete repairs and maintenance packages to Sovereign’s companies and to other housing associations, local authorities, schools and private landlords.
 
RESPONSIBILITIES / KEY DUTIES:

- Measuring surface areas to work out how much paint or wall covering is required.
- Stripping off old wallpaper or paint.
- Filling holes and cracks and making sure surfaces are level.
- Preparing surfaces with primer and undercoat.
- Mixing paint to the right shade, either by hand or using computerised colour-matching equipment.
- Applying layers of paint and hanging wallpaper.
- Tidying up after finishing a job.
 
As well as the above key duties, the Painter and Decorator Multi is expected to be able to complete the duties of a Carpenter or Plasterer (or some of both) as defined in our Job Description for a Painter and Decorator Multi.
 
ESSENTIAL SKILLS / EXPERIENCE:

You should have a minimum of an NVQ level 2 or equivalent in Painting and Decorating with demonstrable experience in all aspects of this core trade. You should also be able to demonstrate experience in one full additional trade, or two partial trades. For this vacancy, these trades should be Carpentry and/or Plastering. 

You will have experience of working in occupied premises and be able to demonstrate good customer care skills. The ability to use mobile technology such as an iPad or PDA is essential. A current CSCS card is desirable.

Due to a requirement to travel within this role, candidates must hold a full and current driving licence that is acceptable to our insurers and have the ability to drive a company van.
