Role Overview

The Carer Hub is a new venture for PeoplePlus, the purpose of the Carer Hub is to provide management, co-ordination and provision of an Integrated Carers Hub for Adult Carers and Young Carers and their families. The Carers Hub is an integral part of the Carers Whole System Redesign across Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent. The purpose of the Carers Hub is to:
• Increase the identification of Carers
• Provide emotional and practical support to meet identified needs
• Reduce any inappropriate caring pressures
• Improve Carers quality of life and opportunities
• Improve Carers physical and emotional well-being
• Provide personalised, integrated and holistic support
• Advocate on behalf of the Carer where required

As a Young Carer Coordinator you will be liaising with all members of the Carer Hub team to ensure there is a support service for carers between the age of 5 and 18. This will be achieved by using your experience and knowledge to identify opportunities for young people to get involved in activities and providing information and emotional support where required.

 What You Will Be Doing

  • Developing and delivering activities for young carers of all ages and all this entails. E.g. ensuring proper supervision, maintaining a healthy environment, discipline, team building, safeguarding
  • Identifying providers of group activities and building good working relationships with them to support the Partnership and Engagement Manager in a library of providers
  • Working with providers of activities to secure places for young carers
  • Completing and maintain records and other administrative duties
  • Coordinate transport of young carers to and from clubs and groups in line with the Carer Hub policies and procedures
  • Liaise with the Volunteer Coordinator, and peers to ensure that there is sufficient resource to support any in house activities
  • Monitor and identify needs of the young carers and feedback to the Generalist to ensure that issues and concerns are raised and addressed

What You Will Need To Have

Essential
 

  • Qualification in teaching, youth work, NNEB or NVQ level 3 in childcare or equivalent on the job experience.
  • Demonstrate the ability to build and maintain healthy and supportive relationships with children of all ages
  • An understanding of the issues affecting Young Carers
    Demonstrate the ability to design and deliver appropriate activities for all ages to support social development
  • Ability to use own initiative and prioritise own work
  • Good IT and admin skills
  • An understanding of the Care Act
  • A working knowledge of safeguarding
  • Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of Data Protection in relation to young carers
  • Must have experience of working with children of all ages
  • Experience of developing and delivering activities to people
  • Respect for views, values and cultures that are different to their own
  • An understanding of why confidentiality is important
  • A positive attitude to self-development and assessment
  • Ability to work as part of a team as well as on their own
  • Ability to recognise their own limits and boundaries in the role
  • Managing expectations of the Carers
  • This role is peripatetic – you will be required to work from the office as well as outreach locations across the County
