What it’s about

The Centre Inspections Manager plays a key role in upholding the standards of our qualifications and protecting us from risk and reputational damage.

You will be responsible for making sure we comply with regulatory requirements, while also taking into consideration the impact of requirements on our exam centres (the schools that offer our exams) and our candidates.

You will manage our global programme of centre inspections, and will manage a small team in Cambridge and around 130 external consultants based around the world.

As the Centre Inspections Manager, you will be relied on to manage the day to day programme and to look for areas of improvement. You will work closely with colleagues around the business and with our centres to make sure the programme is kept up to date, managed within budget and is fit for purpose.

This is an exciting opportunity for someone looking to develop their career further.

What you’ll be doing

  • Delivering a high quality inspections and audit programme that meets targets and stays within budget
  • Ensuring that risks are identified and raised
  • Managing a team in Cambridge including employee development and performance, and managing a team of consultants around the world
  • Liaising with our offices around the world to ensure a consistent global standard
  • Identifying opportunities for improvement in processes and requirements, and assessing the impact of these on customers and centres and addressing these impacts
  • Managing the communication of regulations to centres

What we’re looking for

We’re looking for someone with great organisation and communication skills, who is used to working to deadlines and is enthusiastic about customer service. You need to be able to firmly and diplomatically explain to centres where they have gone wrong. You’ll be a confident user of Excel and Word, be proactive and innovative, and be happy to work independently.

You must be able to strike a good balance between upholding rules, and questioning whether the rules are still relevant. You’ll be educated to degree level or equivalent, and be comfortable working with complex processes and with numbers (for managing the budget).

Desirables:

  • Some people management experience
  • Experience of InDesign, Prezi or other similar tools
  • Budget management experience
  • Some knowledge of our centre network
  • Experience of training people

There are particularly busy times of year, such as May/June, when opportunities for taking leave may be limited. There may be occasional travel outside the UK.

Benefits

  • In addition to a competitive salary, we offer a superb range of benefits
  • Generous contributory pension
  • 28 days annual leave, plus bank holidays

  • Cycle scheme
  • Subsidised canteens
  • Support for professional qualifications
