• Mechanical and electrical locking fitters maintain 468 signal boxes and 387 ground frames.
• Operational property helpdesk process over 200,000 calls.

Brief Description

Deliver all fleet engineering activities for the fleet to ensure it is fit-for-purpose and compliant with relevant legislation and standards. Deliver fleet engineering works which support the continuous improvement of the fleet and enhance capabilities which meet business objectives of the customer.
This role is classified as national and agile. Therefore, provision is made for travel where required and a job requirement car is provided - you will need to be based within 90 minutes travelling time of York, Derby or Milton Keynes.

About the role (External)

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
1. Provide specialist input to the sourcing and delivery of maintenance, repair, modification and overhaul of fleet assets to ensure they are fit-for-purpose and can safely deliver our customers' requirements.

2. Provide specialist input to the production of engineering specifications and contract negotiations for maintenance, modification, renewal and construction of fleet assets to meet our customers emerging business needs.

3. Identify potential modifications to the fleet assets to improve performance, capability, efficiency and service delivery. Manage the development of business cases and all engineering deliverables necessary to demonstrate compliance with commercial and engineering policy.

4. Develop and implement engineering management systems which are compliant with relevant legislation, company and industry standards.

5. Provide technical input to contract management, KPIs and implementation of corrective actions.

6. Maintain positive relations with customers, suppliers, and between key SCO departments.

7. Identify and manage the resolution of engineering issues, prioritisation of tasks and, where necessary, escalate where they have the potential to impact on service delivery.

8. Provide specialist input to the development and implementation of the engineering management strategy for the fleet, including, maintenance, overhaul, improvements, spares and value engineering. Lead audit programmes and local investigations as required.

9. Maintain own competence and development plan to support fleet engineering management.

JOB SKILLS, EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS
ESSENTIAL
• Knowledge of asset engineering including whole life cost.

• Comfortable working in an agile environment and travelling nationally as part of the working week.

• A full UK Driving License.

• Knowledge of relevant legislation, industry and company standards.

• Able to use engineering data to make critical decisions.

• Good interpersonal, communication and organisational skills.

DESIRABLE

• Professional Engineering status, either Chartered or Incorporated Engineer.

• Degree in a relevant Engineering discipline.

• Knowledge of Network Rail fleet would be a nice thing to have but is not essential.

Network Rail adheres to a structured pay framework, any salary offered will be within the following pay range:
Salary: GBP32,256 - GBP36,288
