About the role
Balfour Beatty has an exciting opportunity for an Oil Mechanic - Grade 1 to join our Power Transmission & Distribution business.

Based in Kent, this role will report into the Project Manager and work on one of our projects.

What you'll be doing
As an Oil Mechanic you will:

  • Act as team leader for the two and/or three man team of oil mechanics.
  • Supervise daily activity of the hydraulic team and being responsible for the work carried out on site.
  • Work on a wide range of cables and accessories up to and incl. 400kV, including straight joints, stop joints, trifurcating joints, transition joints, outdoor sealing end in the fluid filled range
  • Create, maintain and report records of hydraulic work activities carried out on a daily basis.
  • Complete quality pro formas on time throughout the various stages of the hydraulic works on site



Who we're looking for
You will:

  • Possess a general level of education incl. Mathematics and English
  • Be able to follow work instructions in a reliable and proper manner
  • Be a certified as a Oil Mechanic on fluid filled cables of 200kV and above
  • Be familiar in the use of 'new' and 'old' type fluid degasifiers / purifiers and understand the process and delivery techniques associated with these items of equipment and their integration to fluid filled cable systems
  • Have a thorough understanding of all of the specific requirements up to and incl 400kV i.e fluid condition / particle counts, fluid sampling to National Grid standards, filter changing together with the capability of being able to calculate final flows, final impregnation coefficients and pressure tank adjustments
