Due to the continued growth of Osborne Clarke and the Finance team, we have an exciting, new opportunity for a Senior Legal Cashier to join us. This role will be based in our Bristol office on a full-time, permanent basis.

What you'll do

Reporting to the Legal Cashier Manager, the main purpose of the role is the maintenance of the office and client ledgers, ensuring application of rules and internal controls and the preparation of related reconciliations and calculations.

You will undertake all aspects of Legal Cashiers work in line with agreed policies and procedures, maintaining controls and responding promptly to requests for advice and information

Other key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Prepare and process foreign and domestic payments from the firms electronic banking facilities (including regular accounts payable and expenses payment runs) on a daily basis from both office and client bank accounts
  • Co-ordinate and communicate the receipt of office and client monies to fee earners on a daily basis and, where appropriate, investigating to ensure compliance with the Solicitors Accounts Rules (SAR) and Money laundering Regulations (MLR)
  • Prepare client fund transfers to fixed term deposits, high interest deposit accounts or electronic client money deposit facilities and provide advice to lawyers on maximising returns to clients
  • Maintain the client and office ledgers, posting receipts and payments and ensuring full compliance with internal controls and other regulations (SAR and MLR)
  • Support the firms treasury management policy, performing transfers and offset calculations
  • Prepare daily and monthly bank account reconciliation's for all client and office bank accounts
  • Prepare interest calculations for client accounts on a daily and quarterly basis
  • Assist with administrative tasks, compile data, conduct research and undertake special projects as required
  • Support the maintenance of the accounts payable ledgers through the opening and closing of supplier records
  • Support other members of Finance in the preparation of financial information as required

What we're looking for

You will have a proven background as a Legal Cashier, ideally at a Senior level. This experience will ideally have been gained in a legal firm as you will have strong knowledge of SAR and the environment in which they are applied.

Also required:

  • Extensive knowledge of Solicitors Account Rules, Money Laundering Regulations and electronic banking processes
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision and to identify and act on issues which need to be escalated
  • Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues across all aspects of the Legal Cashiers team's work and ensure that issues are addressed promptly, professionally, openly and constructively
  • Ability to communicate and interact appropriately and constructively with customers and colleagues
  • Ability to follow policies, processes and instructions
  • Strong and quick keyboard skills with high levels of numerical accuracy
  • Good organisational abilities
  • Good time management and prioritisation skills
  • Self-motivated and proactive
