Our client is one of the world’s leading manufacturers of glass and glazing systems in three business areas: Architectural; Automotive; and Technical Glass.  Today, the Company has combined sales of just over JPY 629 billion, with manufacturing operations in 28 countries and sales in 130 countries, employing some 27,000 people worldwide.

Do you want to develop your career within a dynamic team of scientists and engineers, working on product solutions of the future in the architectural and automotive industry? If so, our client currently has two Technologist vacancies within the Analytical team based at the European Technical Centre to provide analytical support to the R&D project base and global manufacturing operations in the areas of glass, glass surfaces, coatings and raw materials characterisation.

As a member of this team, the position requires an innovative, self-motivated individual with good communication and analytical skills who is able to work collaboratively, usually on a number of different projects in parallel, with staff from other R&D groups.

The successful candidates will have qualifications (minimum of A-Level, BTEC/NVQ level 3) in a relevant discipline e.g. physics or chemistry.  Knowledge of basic analytical methods is desirable – although training will be given.  They have a variety of state-of-the art facilities including X-ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy, Secondary Ion Mass Spectroscopy, X-ray Diffraction, Optical Microscopy, Scanning Electron Microscopy, Atomic Force Microscopy, X-Ray Fluorescence Spectroscopy, Inductively Coupled Plasma Emission Spectroscopy, Fourier Transform Infra-Red spectroscopy, Ion Chromatography and wet chemical procedures.

The work requires a capability to complete careful analysis, combined with sufficient engineering/technical background to be able to interpret the relevance and significance of the results.  In addition, the candidate will undertake technical support, using a logical approach to problem solving, achieving the required output within, often, short time frames.

A full UK driving licence and car ownership would be an advantage due to limited public transport to the site.
