Oxford University Press is a department of the University of Oxford, which furthers the University's objectives of excellence in research, scholarship and education by publishing worldwide.

The Education Division provides books and resources for the UK and for customers around the world. The International team publishes highly successful resources specifically for export markets.

About the role

We are seeking a talented Editor with a specialism in science to join the successful International team. The team creates print and digital resources for learners and teachers around the world. Our publications support a diverse range of subject areas, principally for the IB, Cambridge Assessment International Examinations, Oxford International AQA Examinations, and Caribbean examination boards.

Responsibilities include:

  • Project management of print and digital products from manuscript handover to publication
  • Editing manuscript and proofs to develop resources that meet identified market needs
  • Effective communication with authors, reviewers, and freelancer editors; liaison with exam board partners
  • Recruitment and management of freelance editors
  • Management of project schedules and budgets to ensure timely and cost-effective publication
  • Liaison with colleagues in sales, marketing, design, digital and production.

The ideal candidate will have creative talent, as well as the focussed approach needed to work within time and cost constraints. You will work with colleagues, authors, and freelancers to publish resources which are targeted at teacher and learner needs. You will bring scientific expertise to the team but may be required to work on other subject areas at times, to support the delivery of our publishing programme.

The role is initially for 6 months, with the possibility of extension.

About you

If you are looking for a chance to be part of a creative team to help develop engaging and innovative school resources in a collaborative environment then this opportunity will interest you.

The successful candidate will have:

  • A good honours degree or equivalent in a scientific discipline
  • A demonstrable interest in/experience of educational publishing and the education sector more generally
  • High levels of literacy
  • Excellent organisation, communication and time-management skills
  • Good Microsoft Word and Excel skills
