Energetic Materials Engineer

Would you like to play a key role in the full lifecycle of heavy munitions and supplies for the UK MOD? We currently have a vacancy for an Energetic Materials Engineer at our site in Glascoed, South Wales.

As an Energetic Materials Engineer, you will be responsible for devising new products and existing product improvements, supporting the process through the full product lifecycle, through design, development, trails, testing, qualification and handover into production.

This role will provide you with the opportunity to work within a varied and fast paced role, being at the forefront of advanced defence technology.

Your main responsibilities as an Energetic Materials Engineer will involve:

Providing technical direction for designing and developing new formulations in line with expectations

Liaising with other business functions, to ensure that project progress is maintained

Conducting technical work on appropriate processing and measurement facilities to provide the required data

Testing and trialling products on site, as well as at other sites within the UK or overseas

Compiling and reviewing a safe system of work paperwork to cover the team's routine and special activities

Ensuring that work conducted by direct reports and the wider team is carried out to the highest safety and technical standards

Interfacing with internal and external technical customers

Assessing and exploring new materials and technologies to ensure that BAE Systems Land (UK) remains competitive in relevant fields

Building and developing a network of contacts to enable the development of own and business capabilities

Your skills and qualifications:

Essential:

MSc/MEng (ideally in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering or Materials Science) or equivalent experience

Industry experience within a relevant discipline- ideally explosives, chemical processing, polymers or pharmaceuticals

Experience working in a highly safety conscious environment

Desirable:

Experience working with explosives

Although a full UK driving licence is not essential, it would be desirable due to remote site locations

You will be an adaptable and self-motivated worker, with excellent communication skills and the ability to interact with ease, at various levels. You will have excellent interpersonal skills and work well within a team, as well as independently to your own initiative.

Location: Glascoed, South Wales

Salary: GBP31,625
