The Bristol Veterinary School is seeking to appoint a 90% FTE Research Associate with a background and significant postdoctoral experience in animal welfare science to work with Professor Mike Mendl, Dr Carole Fureix and Dr Liz Paul on a three-year BBSRC funded research project which builds upon our research. The results will have clear implications for detecting welfare problems and improving lab animal welfare.
You will be responsible for day-to-day organisation of the project, allocation of resources, collection, collation and statistical analysis of data, assisting with presentation and reporting of results, ensuring that the project adheres to all quality assurance schemes, and, alongside the PI and Co-Is, managing a full-time Research Technician in support of the project. The project involves public engagement activities which you will also help to organise.
You should have a PhD in animal welfare science and have experience in developing and using new behavioural assays to measure cognitive biases and novel physiological indicators of welfare. You will also have significant experience of attending, organising and managing workshops and similar events bringing together researchers, stakeholders, industrial partners, as well as of public engagement activities.
For informal enquiries contact Professor Mike Mendl by email at or Dr Carole Fureix by email at .
The University is committed to creating and sustaining a fully inclusive culture. We welcome applicants from all backgrounds and communities.
