Who we are looking for





The Scottish Indirect Tax team team provides trusted advisor services to corporate and private business clients based across Scotland, inbound clients from around the world and specialist services to PwC clients nationally. We advise on VAT, Customs & Excise Duties, IPT and environmental taxes.

We have an exciting opportunity for a Manager to join our Indirect Tax team. The candidate will be operating in a team based in Glasgow, with the ability to spend time in both the Aberdeen and Edinburgh offices. The candidate will have experience primarily in VAT and indirect tax, with a commercial outlook and enthusiasm for business. There may be periodic visits to client sites and other PwC offices as required.

The successful applicant will have a keen interest in how the indirect taxation system impacts both corporate and private clients alike and wants to develop their knowledge further through additional training and on the job learning.



About the role





The successful candidate will be given day-to-day responsibility for managing a portfolio of on-going client relationships and will also work on complex tax advisory projects and assist in winning and developing work.

The ability to manage a varied client portfolio and complex one off projects will be an essential part of your role which will include responsibility for managing and developing more junior members of staff in your team. You will provide your clients with excellent advice on indirect tax matters relevant to their business, and will be responsible for introducing other specialists and services as appropriate. You will be expected to establish effective working relationships with appropriate levels of client staff and maintain and develop on-going client relationships.

As a manager, you will be part of client service and project teams across PwC and will be expected to develop your managerial and leadership role within those teams - including working closely with other lines of service such as corporate finance, transaction services and assurance such that we can deliver a seamless service to our clients. You will need to be proactively involved in the financial management of the relationship, ensuring work is delivered on time and within budget, contribute to the development of personal and team knowledge, build your own network of contacts through regular attendance at internal and external meetings, keep up-to-date with proposed and actual changes in law and in the firm's products and services and keeping up-to-date with local and national business and economic issues that might potentially impact on your clients and /or their industry.

The Scottish Indirect Tax team offers the opportunity to work on a challenging and varied client portfolio. Your role will be primarily VAT but you will be given the opportunity to work closely with specialists in particular areas, including:- Customs and International Trade; Financial Services; Tax Reporting and Strategy (including compliance); Real Estate tax; Transactions support; International tax planning; The successful candidate will have strong technical skills in Indirect Tax with the ability to provide a commercial tax service to our clients and to lead teams of highly motivated people.

Amount of time office based: 90%

Amount of time at client sites: 10%

Need to travel/overnight stays away from home: Occasional, depending on client projects.

Requirements



The requirements for the role are as follows:





• Relevant qualifications in ICAS/ICAEW and/or CTA; or equivalent.

• A commitment to continuing to enhance technical and other knowledge and skills;

• Willingness to take on new and challenging work;

• Excellent team playing skills and desire to work XLos;

• Good communication skills;

• Self-motivation; and

• Good organisational and people skills.
