The Coal Authority has an exciting opportunity for a Trainee Planning Liaison Manager to join their planning team based in Mansfield, Nottinghamshire. You will be on a full time 3 year fixed term contract with a competitive salary of £24,000 plus excellent benefits.

We are based in Nottinghamshire, England.  We provide expert advice and creative solutions to manage the public safety and environmental issues from coal and metal mining. We have an ambitious 5 year plan to expand our services, providing advice and services to governments and public bodies in the UK and overseas. We are a unique organisation, with a strong heritage, built around getting the best from our people and information.  In maximising these key assets we have developed the expertise to deliver innovative and wide ranging solutions for our customers, whilst discharging our public duties and significantly reducing the legacy of mining which is estimated to be GBP 1bn for coal mining alone.

As our Trainee Planning Liaison Manager you will assist other members of the Planning and Local Authority Liaison team in responding to planning consultations, general planning enquiries and providing pre-application planning advice in accordance with the externally set deadlines to coalfield local planning authorities across England, Scotland and Wales.

This post is part of the Authority's succession planning programme and the post holder will be a junior professional within the Planning and Local Authority Liaison department.  The post holder will be supported with the necessary training and mentoring.

Responsibilities of our Trainee Planning Liaison Manager

- Assisting with the delivery of the Coal Authority's statutory consultation role.  This will include effective management of a high volume workload in response to consultations received in respect of development management and the development plan systems.

- Assisting with discussions with Local Authorities, Central Government, the Devolved Administrations, Elected Members and other organisations, as necessary, and to develop the external relationships needed to implement the Authority's strategies, including attending meetings.

- Liaising with other internal departments, as necessary, and representing the Authority on matters of planning and public safety with these organisations and others to resolve the matter as the Authority may require.

- Assisting with the monitoring of the effectiveness of the Authority's input into the planning system and identifying opportunities for improving departmental systems and working processes to obtain best value.

- Defending where necessary professional planning views and judgements expressed in the Authority's consultation responses to Local Planning Authorities.

Qualifications and skills required to become our Trainee Planning Liaison Manager

- A Masters degree or postgraduate diploma in town planning (or other equivalent planning qualification)           

- Effective decision making         

- Good verbal and written communications        

- Ability to assimilate information and analyse data         

- Team Working / Interpersonal relationship skills            

- Computer literacy
