Engineering Manager

DEPARTMENT : Engineering

LOCATION: Forth, Lanark

Salary: Dependant on Experience

Responsible for: All plant engineers

The role

The Engineering Manager is a "hands on" role. This position will lead the plant engineering department to support operation requirements which will extend to a 24/7 operation. The plant engineering manager serves as the key technical resource for the manufacturing operation focusing on preventative maintenance, troubleshooting and problem resolution for electronic/mechanical equipment issues. This engineer will also play a key role in continuous improvement.

Principle responsibilities

  • Hands on maintenance and engineering works on all equipment as required.
  • Responsible for organisation of planned maintenance and repair to the MRF and associated plant including mobile plant where required
  • Implement and maintain a CMMS regime
  • To develop and improve planned maintenance regimes whilst improving fault diagnosis skills.
  • To develop and support relationships with equipment suppliers and service providers
  • Provide technical support to operations, this will involve fault elimination, problem solving and taking ownership of all engineering downtime.
  • To instigate and support improvement projects on new equipment, upgrade of existing equipment and processes to improve quality, throughput, workflow and yield.
  • To supervise and ensure that all repairs and maintenance are carried out to the required standard.
  • To manage, supervise and train all members of the maintenance Dept. and any operational members as required.
  • Stock management for key equipment, spare stock levels and process consumables
  • Participate in a 24-hour maintenance cover on site as required by operational activities.
  • Manage maintenance cover on site to meet requirements

  • To ensure that the PUWER (Provision and Use of Work Equipment) Regulations 1998 are adhered to, specifically, but not limited to:
  • That all equipment is suitable for its use
  • That employees adequately trained on machinery used
  • That all equipment and machinery are maintained and repaired with adequate records
  • Control of electrical and other maintenance contractors on site
  • Focus on safe efficient reliable maintenance and operation of equipment to ensure the production of quality products
  • Make the Process Manager aware of any maintenance issues or electrical faults in a timely and appropriate manner
  • Ensure all systems are kept in safe working order.
  • Ensure housekeeping in and around maintained equipment is to a high standard.
  • To identify with Process Manager process/plant improvements and implement any agreed improvements from design to commissioning.
  • Lead continuous improvement efforts using lean manufacturing techniques
  • Ability to solve problems via advanced technical knowledge, analysis and theory testing

KNOWLEDGE:

  • KE1 – Knowledge of electrical, control or plant engineering
  • KE2 – An awareness of Health and Safety in the workplace
  • KE4 - Knowledge of control systems
  • KE5 – knowledge of 17th Edition

SKILLS:

  • SE1 – Ability to demonstrate understanding of process plant and maintenance/repair.
  • SE2 – Good fault finding and trouble shooting
  • SE3 – Able to deal effectively and timely with conflicting pressures of work
  • SE4 – Good communication skills
  • SE5 – Ability to work as part of a team
  • SE6 – computer literate
  • SE7 – Manual dexterity and physically fit

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • QE1 – Minimum HNC or above in relevant discipline or 3-5 years’ relevant experience
  • QE2 – full driving licence

EXPERIENCE:

  • EE1 Experience working in a factory – process environment
  • EE2 – Hands on experience of maintenance and engineering works in a heavy process or utility plant.
  • EE3 – Experience of managing subcontractors
  • EE4 – Worked within busy environment with many time pressures being imposed
