Job Purpose

To co-ordinate and facilitate the English Lab as directed by the Curriculum Manager for English or by the Head of School. To support the administration and delivery of English to students across the college. To deal with all student English queries in the lab both individually and in groups. To support students on a variety of programmes at various levels, as directed by the Curriculum Managers and Heads of School. To participate in the effective and consistent use of student monitoring systems (Moodle and eILP) where required.

Duties and responsibilities

Specific

  • To run the English Lab ensuring it is effective, efficient and well-maintained
  • To keep up-to-date tracking of students undertaking maths and to supervise all students using the English Lab.
  • Attend open events to positively promote the college and its programmes of study and support services to potential students.
  • Support enrolment of all students within caseload, including late starters. Follow up no-shows.
  • Assist curriculum area in monitoring student attendance and performance.
  • Support students to undergo initial assessments. Liaise with ALS to refer and support students to access and attend support as identified.
  • Refer to Curriculum Managers/Head of School where intervention is not working and assist students to access service of relevant outside agencies.

  • Deliver engaging and enriching individual/group tutorials on English themes, from pastoral care issues to progression activity and development of employability skills. Work collaboratively to design and deliver new tutorials devised from existing central resources.
  • Support enrolment of all students within caseload, including late starters.
  • Signpost students to relevant support & services.
  • Pro-actively monitor attendance and punctuality patterns and follow up areas of concern.

EMPLOYMENT INFORMATION - Business Support Scale 1 - 4 This post is subject to Northampton College, Conditions of Service for Business Support staff and a six-month probationary period. On completion, you will be expected to participate in the College's appraisal system.

All members of staff are appointed to the College as a whole and may reasonably be asked to undertake similar or related duties in a department or team other than that to which they were originally appointed.

Please note that if this post requires unsupervised access working with children under

18 years and/or vulnerable adults, if appointed you will be required to complete a criminal record check by the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS).

Hours of Duty: 37 hours per week, 42 weeks per year

Job share will be considered for this post

You will be required to be at work for a total of 1554 hours per year. This will usually be completed on 200 days over a period of 42 weeks based around student term times. Holiday, including entitlement to Bank Holidays and Closure Days, will be taken outside this working time, unless by prior arrangement with your line manager.

Salary: In the range of GBP18,635 - GBP20,678 pro rata

Actual salary in the range of GBP18,159 - GBP20,150 per annum Depending on skills, experience and qualifications

Holidays: Holiday entitlement will be included in monthly pay to the value of 35 days per annum pro rata, including 8 bank holidays and 3 closure days. The College reserves the right to designate up to 3 closure days per holiday year.
