Our client, a leading design and consultancy firm are on the lookout for a Principal Geotechnical Engineer to join their successful team in the Guildford offices.

The successful Principal Geotechnical Engineer will have practical geotechnical work and design experience and will join the growing Geosciences business, predominately working within the Utilities, Highways and Rail sectors.

The successful Principal Geotechnical Engineer will report to the Director and will work closely with the Team Leader, you will be accountable for managing components of projects, working in collaboration with other design disciplines and providing technical inputs to projects. The role will involve building relationships with clients, controlling commercial aspects of projects together with assisting and participating in developing team members to their full potential.

Upon joining our client your responsibilities will include but are not limited to

  • Proactively managing selected projects or components of projects, taking responsibility for resource allocation, managing subcontractors and sub-consultants, quality assurance, health & safety and client feedback and ensuring effective communication of any changes/modifications
  • Directing and working in collaboration with other design disciplines to ensure the integrity of the overall design
  • Managing the production of analysis and design and ensuring compliance in the components of the project for which you have responsibility, including drawings, reports, specifications and studies
  • Identifying opportunities and driving implementation of re-engineering strategies to maximise the profitability of design components
  • Managing all commercial aspects (contract, invoicing, debt management, client management etc) relating to projects for which you have responsibility to ensure a successful outcome.
  • Liaising with the Project Director or Manager and the client to keep informed of all developments associated with the project

As a Principal Geotechnical Engineer with our client you must hold at least anMEng in Civil Engineering with a Geotechnical bias and be a Chartered Civil Engineer (MICE), it is also desirable for you to hold a MSc in Geotechnical Engineering or related subject is desirable. You must have experience in Earthworks design, ground investigation design as well as experience in the use of routine geotechnical design programs such as VDISP, WALLAP, SLIDE and SlopeW
