CH2M's Bridges Team in Swindon is seeking to maintain and grow its capability with a view to delivering its growing portfolio of major scheme for clients such as the Highways Agency, Transport for Scotland, Welsh Government, Network Rail, local authorities, contractors and a variety of international clients. We are now looking for a Bridge Design Technician.



We are a centre for excellence for bridge and structural design, in particular specialising in major crossings.



We have an impressive scope of work to deliver on a diverse range of bridge, railway and highway projects such as

• Bridge replacement designs for the M4 and M6 Smart Motorways Projects

• Feasibility studies, designs and checking for pedestrian/cyclist bridges

• Design of elevated viaducts for the extension of Dubai Metro in the UAE

• Lower Thames Crossing



In addition to these projects we anticipate securing a number of significant and iconic bridge projects in the near future.



The Swindon office has a good number of bridge engineers and technicians, playing a key role in expanding the bridges business for the company, both regionally and internationally. With recent increase in the portfolio of projects that we need to deliver, we are now looking to expand the team.



We are looking for a Bridge Design Technician (or Senior CAD Technician) with substantial experience of delivering projects involving bridges, heavy foundations and all kinds of civil and structural design elements in reinforced concrete and steel.



You will be passionate about design and production of high quality and accurate drawings. As a Bridge Design Terchnician working within our Bridges team in the Swindon office, your role will involve:

• Preparation of general arrangement and reinforcement drawings in AutoCAD and industry standard reinforced concrete detailing software

• Providing high quality deliverables with minimal errors in support of bridges projects

• Planning and organising your work having due regard to the project deadlines

• Working closely with fellow technicians and engineering staff

• Production of drawings in accordance with relevant drawing standards

• Supporting other discipline teams and offices on projects

• Managing and storing drawings in accordance with CH2Ms Quality Management System and other project requirements

• Ability to work with Electronic Document Management Systems such as Bentley ProjectWise

• Acting as mentor, coaching and training junior technicians and apprentices in order to support the teams learning and development objectives



The minimum qualifications for this position are:

• HNC in Civil Engineering or Equivalent

• Excellent IT and advanced AutoCAD skills

• Excellent RC detailing skills using most up-to-date industry standard software



Further requirements for the role:

• Proven track record in the production of bridge drawings

• Excellent written and oral communication skills

• Sound knowledge of civil engineering construction techniques, in particular concrete bridges

• Flexible, adaptable and responsive to change

• Good interpersonal skills and an ability to work to deadlines

• Proficiency in checking your own work



Experience in Building Information Modelling (BIM) such as REVIT, would be very advantageous.
