Carer / Teaching Assistant - Part Time/ Term Time Only

A highly intelligent young man and his family are looking for a part time Carer/ TA to join their team.

Due to a traumatic birth Jonathan has severe Cerebral Palsy. This has led to complex medical needs - he requires assistance with all areas of personal care, is tube fed, on 24 hour oxygen and dependent on a ventilator during the night. Jonathan is unable to verbalise his requirements however he is an extremely eloquent 11 year old due to using a spelling board, which he works with his eyes on a Perspex board held by the person in front of him.

Jonathan has a wide range of interests including baking, writing poetry, reading and listening to music. Jonathan has been campaigning for a better education system for children with access to learning difficulties and he has an active blog.

Jonathan attends the local secondary school. Part of the role is to accompany Jonathan to school, working as his communication partner.

You would be part of a team working alongside Jonathan's mother, in a busy but brilliantly run household. You would act as a capable second pair of hands stepping in where required but also having the sense when to step back and allow the family some quality time together.

We are looking for a reliable, adaptable, compassionate and fun person to join the established team. There is a requirement for occasional waking nights and trips away from the regular place of work. Previous experience in either care or education is an advantage but not essential. We are very open to training up the right candidate.

We are ideally looking for someone to work 20 hours per week, term time only. These hours would vary across the days of the week and will include some evenings and weekends. There is also a requirement to drive a large vehicle for work.
