A fantastic opportunity has arisen for a Health and Safety expert to act as a safety champion within a large Warehouse and Distribution company in Rugby.

Your role will be to play an influential role in the management of Health and Safety as well as environmental compliance, to ensure full compliance with all relevant current and future legislation.

The role responsibilities include:

• Develop and implement health and safety policies and procedures to ensure compliance with health and safety legislation
• Co-ordinate all site Health and Safety activities, including committees, training, toolbox talks, safety bulletins and site inductions
• Ensure that all accidents and incidents are investigated to identify the root cause and implement necessary changes to prevent recurrence
• Provide periodic reports to internal and external clients, including RIDDOR reporting and liaising with regulatory authorities
• Provide leadership and consultation to management, colleagues and contractors to deliver effective health and safety advice and to create a cultural change to improve safety performance
• Provide a safe working environment for contractors and visitors through effective vetting and safe working practices
• Support management teams with any projects with relevant safety input
• Undertake regular compliance audits and inspections of the site to identify areas for improvement and report on the findings
• Lead and support the development and implementation of robust risk assessments and safe work practices
• Drive continuous improvement in all aspects of health, safety and environmental reporting and systems
• Work with external insurance handlers to ensure that civil liability claims are managed appropriately

The successful Health and Safety Manager will have:

• NEBOSH National General Certificate as a minimum although ideally NEBOSH Diploma
• Minimum of 3 year’s proven experience in a transport / logistics / warehousing background
• Training qualification and/or experience in providing training packages and ability to present to a wide audience
• Experience of successfully managing safety within a FMCG environment
• Experience of operating successfully with all levels of colleagues and management
• Proven experience of Risk Assessment and Accident Investigation
• Excellent oral and written communication and able to engage with internal and external clients / stakeholders
• Flexible approach to work, able to manage own priorities and workload
• Confident and assertive with a self-motivated approach and problem solving ‘can do’ attitude
• Working knowledge of current health and safety legislation relevant to the Warehouse and Distribution sector
• Passion to promote a safe working culture and challenging behaviours in others
• The credibility and influencing skills and strategies to be able to build buy-in to change
• Good problem solver with analytical and monitoring skills
• A basic understanding of environmental issues
• CDM experience would be a distinct advantage but not essential
• Sound level of computer literacy, competent in the use of Microsoft Office packages
• Drive and enthusiasm with the willingness to learn, develop and grow in the role

Salary: circa £30k-£35k + benefits
