Job Title: Cook / Weekend Kitchen Assistant

Location: Croydon

Salary: Cooks £10 per hour

Weekend Kitchen Assistants £8 per hour

Hours: Cooks

5 days per week - 32 ½ hours per week (Mon Tues Wed Fri & Alt Sat or Sun 8 a. - 3 p.)

&

5 days per week - 30 hours per week (Mon Tues Wed Fri & Alt Sat or Sun 8 a. - 2 p.)

Weekend Kitchen Assistants 12 hours per week (Sat & Sun 1 p. - 7 p.)

&

12 hours per week (Sat & Sun 8 a. - 3 p.)

A charitable Housing Association who specialises in Supported Housing for the Elderly is seeking catering professionals to work in their modern well equipped kitchens creating nutritious and tasty meals all from fresh ingredients.

Cook

Key Responsibilities:

  • In liaison with the Chef to assist with the organisation and supervision of a high quality food service.
  • Undertake skilled food preparation to provide a variety of meals using seasonal fresh produce following agreed menus.
  • Cater for large numbers using various cooking methods ensuring a balanced diet with special attention to individual dietary and medical needs.
  • Ensure that portion control of food and beverages are adhered to.
  • Assist the Chef in menu planning, budgeting and obtaining feedback from residents to monitor satisfaction of the service.
  • Maintain control of hygiene in the kitchen ensuring compliance with current Food Hygiene requirements, Environmental Health and Health and Safety at Work regulations and that staff adhere to food hygiene standards.
  • Adhere to stock control procedures as directed by the Chef including rotation of stored foods i. frozen, fresh and dry packaged and to ensure proper storage of food.
  • Order supplies as directed within budgetary guidelines and to report shortages or unsuitable produce received.

Essential Qualifications and Experience:

  • Extensive catering experience in a commercial kitchen.
  • Relevant Food Hygiene Certificate.
  • CIEH Level 3 (or higher) in Food Safety Certificate (or equivalent).
  • Supportive of a charitable, caring organisations aims and values.

Desirable:

  • City &Guilds 706 (1 and 2) in Professional Cookery (or NVQ 2 / 3).
  • Experience of preparing fresh food and multi-cultural cuisine.
  • Previous experience of budget control.

Kitchen Assistant

Key Responsibilities:

As part of the Catering Team to assist in the kitchen as instructed by the Chef or Cook including:-

  • Preparation of food.
  • Straightforward food cooking and preparation of snacks.
  • Preparation of drinks and hot beverages.
  • Transporting food to the residential clusters and on-site Day Centre.
  • Serving food and beverages.
  • Laying dining tables.
  • Clearing dining tables and washing crockery and cutlery for re-use.
  • To be responsible for the laying of dining tables and assisting with the serving of meals.
  • Tidy up and/or pack away all equipment and crockery used each day, ensuring cruets are cleaned, refilled and maintained.
  • Carry out the washing-up of all kitchen utensils, crockery, cutlery and equipment used in the preparation, cooking and serving of daily meals.
  • Ensure the continuous cleaning of the kitchen throughout the shift including wiping down preparation surfaces, cleaning equipment and to complete the sections of the Cleaning Schedule applicable to the shift.
  • In the dining areas to be responsible for sweeping the floor and wiping down of tables and chairs to maintain the required standard of hygiene.
  • Deliver meals to residents using wheeled heated hot cabinets.

Essential Qualifications and Experience

  • Catering experience in a commercial kitchen.
  • Basic Food Hygiene & Safety Certificate or equivalent.
  • Ability to follow instruction.
  • Supportive of a charitable, caring organisations aims and values.

Desirable:

  • CIEH Level 2 (or higher) Food Safety Certificate (or equivalent).
  • Health & Safety / COSHH training certificate.
