Regulatory Affairs Advisor - Cardiff

Fixed Term Contract – 12 month Maternity cover

Ofcom is the UK regulator for the TV and radio sectors, fixed line telecoms, mobile, postal services and the airwaves over which wireless devices operate.

The Ofcom Wales team represents Ofcom in Wales and Wales within Ofcom dealing with all aspects of Ofcom’s remit providing input and advice on issues as they apply to Wales, to policy and project teams across Ofcom. Wales has representation on Ofcom’s Content Board and has its own Advisory Committee.

The successful candidate will contribute to the main purpose of the Ofcom Wales team, which is to ensure that Ofcom’s policies are accurately and effectively communicated in Wales and that the concerns of consumers and citizens in Wales are properly raised within Ofcom.

Reporting to the Regulatory Affairs Manager you will work closely with the Ofcom team in Wales in all relevant areas of regulatory activity with emphasis on policy research and development, political and media monitoring, managing correspondence and supporting the Advisory Committee for Wales.

Essential Skills

  • Knowledge of the broad range of Ofcom’s responsibilities and the industry sectors regulated by Ofcom.
  • Sound understanding of the Welsh society, economy, politics and culture, including the working of the National Assembly for Wales and the Welsh Government.
  • Excellent writing skills proven across a broad spectrum of work.
  • A high level of accuracy and attention to detail
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to work on own initiative as well as to assess situations and act appropriately..

Desirable skills

  • The ability to speak and write in Welsh.
