We have an opportunity for a Chef / Hospitality Specialist Practitioner to join the team based at our Chichester campus on a full time, permanent basis. You will receive a salary of £24,691 - £26,197 per annum. Our aim is to change lives through learning and therefore a flexible approach to supporting individual students is a necessity.

From 1 August 2017, Central Sussex College changed its name to Crawley College. It merged with Chichester College as part of a group structure.

Chichester College is the largest provider of further education in West Sussex. In 2014 the college was judged as Outstanding by Ofsted in all four areas, Outcomes for Learners, Teaching, Learning & Assessment, Leadership and Management and Overall Effectiveness. 8 out of 9 curriculum areas inspected were judged to be outstanding. We are a key provider of education and employment to those in our local communities and make a critical contribution to local economic development.  We were established in Chichester in 1964 and also have a 570 acre land-based provision on our Brinsbury campus near Pulborough. We employ over 1,250 full and part-time staff.

About our Chef / Hospitality Specialist Practitioner role

We are looking to recruit a Specialist Practitioner to the Hospitality team with responsibilities for the commercial running of the kitchens in our training facilities. The role will suit an innovative and creative individual with up to date knowledge of practices and commercial development in the Hospitality and Catering industry.

Key Responsibilities as our Chef / Hospitality Specialist Practitioner;

  • Provide information, advice and guidance and to enrol students onto courses.
  • Facilitate learning in the delivery of programmes and assessment in classrooms/laboratories/workshops/learning resource areas and other learning environments.
  • Prepare, adapt, organise and maintain learning resources and/or equipment.
  • Set up the learning environment and undertake the day to day maintenance and repair of equipment, where appropriate. Undertake the monitoring of physical resources with particular attention to health and safety.
  • In accordance with schemes of work, instruct students in line with ILPs and curriculum plans, which have been designed with and for them.
  • Be fully conversant with programme/course regulations and specifications for the defined area thus ensuring conformity and best practice.
  • Support and develop on-line assessment and materials as directed.
  • Produce and carry out as directed, the organisation and administration appropriate to the learning situation including the marking of registers and the submission of other returns and records.
  • Accurately complete administrative returns, reports and assessments as required and provide relevant information for students’ tutorials.
  • Assist with securing quality improvement within the Curriculum area.
  • Contribute to students’ personal development and responsibility for their own learning, and encourage self-advocacy.
  • Support students through the learning process and associated assessment activities.
  • Assess, monitor and mark students’ work and allied activities.

Skills & Experience required of our Chef / Hospitality Specialist Practitioner:

  • Knowledge of safeguarding legislation and practices is essential
  • Prior experience of working within a further education college would be advantageous.
  • Have experience of teaching/tutoring across the hospitality industry and have, or be willing to work towards, a level three coaching qualification and a relevant teaching qualification.
