Salary: £10.32 per hour (Cook) and £8.62 per hour (Kitchen Assistants)

Hours:

Cook 5 days per week: Mon Tues Wed Fri & Alternate Saturday & Sunday 8.00a.m. - 2.30p.m. - 30 hours per week (Croydon)

Kitchen Assistant 4 days per week Sat Sun Mon Tues 10.00 a.m. - 7.00 p.m. (South Norwood)

Kitchen Assistant 2 days per week Sat & Sun 1.00 p.m. - 7.00 p.m. (South Norwood)

The organisation is a charitable Housing Association formed in 1981 to assume full responsibility for the housing and homes for the elderly provided by the Croydon Guild of Voluntary Organisations, now known as Croydon Voluntary Action.

They're now looking for a Cook and two Kitchen Assistants to join their catering teams in South Norwood and Croydon to deliver an excellent catering service to the organisation's clients.

Kitchen Assistant:

As part of the Catering Team to assist in the kitchen as instructed by the Chef or Cook including:

  • Preparation of food.
  • Straightforward food cooking and preparation of snacks.
  • Preparation of drinks and hot beverages.
  • Transporting food to the residential clusters and on-site Day Centre.
  • Serving food and beverages.
  • Laying dining tables.
  • Clearing dining tables and washing crockery and cutlery for re-use.
  • Assist with stock control and the cleanliness and tidiness of storage cupboards.
  • In the dining areas to be responsible for sweeping the floor and wiping down of tables and chairs to maintain the required standard of hygiene.
  • Deliver meals to residents using wheeled heated hot cabinets.

Requirements:

  • Catering experience in a commercial kitchen.
  • Level 2 (minimum) Food Hygiene & Safety Certificate or equivalent.
  • Ability to follow instruction.
  • Supportive of a charitable, caring organisations aims and values.

Desirable:

  • CIEH Level 2 Food Safety Certificate (or higher).
  • Health & Safety / COSHH training certificate.

Cook:

  • In liaison with the Chef to assist with the organisation and supervision of a high quality food service.
  • Undertake skilled food preparation to provide a variety of meals using seasonal fresh produce following agreed menus.
  • Cater for large numbers using various cooking methods ensuring a balanced diet with special attention to individual dietary and medical needs.
  • Ensure that portion control of food and beverages are adhered to.
  • Assist the Chef in menu planning, budgeting and obtaining feedback from residents to monitor satisfaction of the service.
  • Maintain control of hygiene in the kitchen ensuring compliance with current Food Hygiene requirements, Environmental Health and Health and Safety at Work regulations and that staff adhere to food hygiene standards.
  • Adhere to stock control procedures as directed by the Chef including rotation of stored foods i.e. frozen, fresh and dry packaged and to ensure proper storage of food.
  • Order supplies as directed within budgetary guidelines and to report shortages or unsuitable produce received.
  • Ensure the delivery of meals to residents using wheeled heated hot cabinets.
  • In liaison with the Chef or when deputising, to oversee the kitchen staff including allocation of duties and training of new staff.
  • Assist in planning kitchen operations to ensure that standards are maintained in any staff absence.
  • To be flexible in working within agreed rota which may include evening, weekends and Bank Holidays and flexible if required to transfer to another scheme within the Croydon area.

Requirements:

  • Extensive catering experience in a commercial kitchen.
  • Relevant Food Hygiene Certificate.
  • CIEH Level 3 (or higher) in Food Safety Certificate (or equivalent).
  • Supportive of a charitable, caring organisations aims and values.

Desirable:

  • City &Guilds 706 (1 and 2) in Professional Cookery (or NVQ 2 / 3).
  • Experience of preparing fresh food and multi-cultural cuisine.
  • Proven staff management skills.
  • Good IT Skills.
  • Previous experience of budget control.
